But this sis a good effective edit, the way I like (headswap+paletteswap)

The progress seems good, again!

I'm somewhat kind of disturbed by the keyboard input, but it can be very helpful for casual people not familliar with A, A2, and other openbor input.
 
I keep supporting your project but don't you think there's sometimes too much enemies in the screen, Illu? Facing a boss and one or two enemies with him is amazingly hard to keep an eye everywhere. It's like, for a referee in soccer, determinate if there is offside or not. ^^'
 
I never doubted Quicksilver would rank at the top. He is so good and better yet, he is FUN to play. Same with Hulk - you've manage to make what could have been just another heavy-hitting slow "boring" bruiser (*coff* Zangief *coff*)into a fun powerhouse. I wasn't a fan of "hulk smash" but it is so fun to unleash that rage!

I really like Emma - and I think I got pretty good with her. One of my favorites, in fact. But she is difficult to play and all characters that lack a super move that causes super damage (like Thor's for instance) are trickier to play - mostly because of boss battles, which you can end with only one or two super hits. Except for Vision, I guess. His invincibility and great moves make up for that.

I still can't get the hang of Brand, so I can understand people's frustration. But don't let that fool you, she is a superb character.

I feel the same. I always change the buttons configuration (I'm a WASD kinda guy ;) ), so I think (ATTACK) (JUMP) (BLOCK) etc would be best. But to each its own. :)

I liked that move too. Hulk is receiving some cool updates;

- Better block animation
- Better jump down attack (jumping knee smash), Its faster and can hit otg

- Gamma Stomp had changed. Now It's not a two hit move, with uppercut follow-up, but a faster (and powerful) stomp, doing an area damage. Hulk jumps higher and comes down faster than before, but has a bigger recovery time.

- You can chain Jump attack into jump down attack (which will hit OTG) or even into Gamma Stop :)

But she is difficult to play and all characters that lack a super move that causes super damage

I know, me too. But I had to make it (even I hating it myself). Some people doesn't even knows how to jump...but Its their problem, I won't modify the game thanks to such insignificant thing.

so I think (ATTACK) (JUMP) (BLOCK) etc would be best. But to each its own.
I agree, but the way I used on that image it's factory default for OpenBOR, and since I can't remap buttons on android version, I decided to let it how it is.
But, personally, I map my personal layout as ATTACK, JUMP, SPECIAL, ATTACK2/BLOCk
 
Some more progress:

Captain America
- Buc ky mode done. On this mode (selected by palette), his freespecial (shield throw) is replaced with a pistol shoot, and his chargeattack (shield bash) is replaced with Shield Throw.

- Now he finally throws that damn hammer ;)

Black Cat
- Now you can chain her Avenger Power from Juming attacks and it won't fail anymore, even on bosses.
- Her normal attacks are now faster.

Spider-Woman
- Finally, her alternative Avenger Power is done. She has two Avenger Power - Bioeletric Discharge and Web Swing Carnival, which changes based on which palette (costume) she is using

Spiderwoman looks great :) Looking forward to playing her.

The Hulk and Thor upgrades are looking good too.
 
Damn, that web carnival looks awesome! and painful!

Good to see the hammer throw! I don't really like the way charge attacks work on Openbor, so it's great to hear that this move will also work as a combo finisher.


 
Thanks everyone. This update is taking more time than I expected, because I almost have no time to touch it - I am deadly busy in RL and with commissions (I should release something soon ;) )

Some more updates:
- All chars now have announcer voices (thanks, AGAIN, to ShockDingo and his amazing voices).
- Spider-woman has an alternate hyper if she touches a not valid target, like a non-grabable target, obstacle or too big enemy (so she won't grab and toss a giant Sentinel). She creates a web wrecking ball and smashes the target.

- Now Black Cat and Brand are less open to damage when executing their anti-air moves, since they fall faster on the ground.
- The same logic was applied to Spider-Woman Anti-air move (think in something like Chun-Li's spinning bird kick, but going upward). She does a short jump and stops if there is no target. But if the move connects, she continue to goes upward.

- Hammer Head (boss) now have physical attacks (guess what: a headbutt).
 
Saddly, no. This is why I made that pool. I would love to include her, but people had decided for Andromeda.

Spider-Woman codes are giving me a hard time, because both modes have specific points, like:
- Fly / no fly
- Venom Blast / Web
- Poison resistance / no resistance

I almost splitted this character in two different characters - this would cut the script work in half, but would increase the normal work in 100%, since I would need to make new attacks for her to make both versions unique (and we are already using that base for the NPC version). So I think I will stick to that.
Plus, I noticed that there are other versions which can use Venom Blast, so maybe I will let 2 or 3 palettes for each mode.

Right now, I am trying to code a different flying mode for both modes, since some modes can't fly.
After that, I will work on some enemies to finally release the so-called-quick-update :)

For the next release (which I have no date yet), we will have two new playable characters: MoonDragon and Colossus.

MoonDragon will be available on the Original Guardians of the Galaxy level (where we will have other GOTD characters, but the original ones like Yondu, Major Victory, etc) and Colossus will appear on the Sentinel stage.
 
These look great! :) I just played this afternoon and it got me excited for the new content. I still love Black Cat even though she did poorly in the voting thing and I'm getting better with her. Now that she is able to hit Hammer and some other bosses with her ultimate she should be easier to play for people in the next update so maybe she'll become more popular :)

Spiderwoman looks really fun to play and she seems like the most unique character in terms of her alternate forms. She really is like 2 characters in one :D Her ultimates look amazing and brutal too, probably some of the best in the game so far.

So Colossus and Moondragon will be unlocked by beating the stages you mentioned (similar to how Namor and Red Hulk were unlocked by beating certain stages)?

I have no idea who Moondragon is so I'm interested in seeing how she plays and seeing how you make Colossus unique from the Hulks but I have no doubt you'll do a great job :D

So will Starlord and his gang not be playable or are Yondu and Major Victory going to be added in addition to them? I was not overly happy with ZVitor's versions of the GotG characters so I was interested in seeing what you might do differently with them so I hope they make it one day :) I don't like Yondu as a character but he could have some interesting game mechanics with that whistling weapon he uses. Like maybe one of his abilities could be he shoots out the weapon and you can actually control it for a short while, like move it around and it damages any enemy it hits. I always thought a character with an ability like that could be cool where you can take control of a secondary thing, though it would leave the character themselves vulnerable I suppose. I come up with weird ideas sometimes XD

Douglas has repeatedly demonstrated mental psionic energy usage far in advance of all human and human mutants including that of the world renowned telepaths such as Professor Charles Xavier, Emma Frost and Jean Grey (without the enhancement of the Phoenix Force).

So will Starlord and his gang not be playable or are Yondu and Major Victory going to be added in addition to them? I don't like Yondu as a character but he could have some interesting game mechanics with that whistling weapon he uses.
Probably, no. Unless I found someone to edit the 4 characters. We will have Yondu, Major Victory, Aleta and StarHawk (which will be fought as a boss first). Maybe Martinex, but I dunno.
Some of them will be available as you start the chapter, some after you pass through it and some as you finish it. The same for Colossus on the Sentinel stage (where many mutants are held captive)

About Yondu, he uses his classic costume and mohawk and will control his arrows with whistle for sure :)
 
You really are going old school with this. This should introduce more modern fans of Marvel to these old school gems for sure.

She's better than Emma Frost as a character and definitely unique. I think for a lot of people they just didn't have the patience to figure out how to play her properly. I'm guilty of this too, sorry! ::)

I hope you find someone :) Once again I find myself wishing I knew anything about spiriting so I could get them into the game, haha. Still it's interesting to see some new characters that will hopefully have their own fun way of playing :)

I forgot to ask about Spiderman! :) I remember seeing the early spritework you shared maybe last month. How's the progress on him going? Will he be in one of the the upcoming versions (with Spiderwoman or Colossus)? Or further down the line?

Yeah it will be a challenge, specially when we will have Jean Gray too (with a Phoenix mode). Wish me luck :)

This is a split decision for me. I could ask to the spriter of those 4 characters if they let me use those chars on my game, even I hating to reuse characters from other mods (ZV's one, in this case). But I am deadly sure people will keep asking for them if I put GotG characters on the game. Its the same reason I haven't included Fantastic Four on the game yet.

Further down on the line. Update and Release are different things to me. When I use "update", I mean I will updated the game with some fixes and some new content (which is the case of Spider-woman).
You won't have any new stages, for example. Release means a complete release, with new players, chapters, etc. I count 2 releases of this game, for example.

Colossus and Spiderman will be available on a future Release, specially in Spiderman's case since I have A LOT of things to code - there is a whole chapter for him, with more than 10 bosses.

Talking about the game, I am having a hard time coding the sky cycle for Spider-woman, since I want to split the sky cycle in two forms (because some versions doesn't fly).
Also, I am adding the UP UP attack for Hawkeye and Brand, so you can cycle the arrows/guns back. Brand won't lose the gun mode when she dies anymore. I will try to make the same thing for Hawkeye.

Yeah I can definitely understand wanting your work to be as original as possible :) but I agree that a lot of people will want the GotG from the movie because they're more recognizable and more likely to be chosen to play compared with the originals in the comics. One of the main reasons I didn't like ZVitors versions of the characters though was their sprites and moves all looked kinda weird and awkward a lot of the time (especially Groot and Rocket who were so disappointing) so unless they were heavily edited and somehow given new moves, it probably would not be worth re-using them. Although having said that, I know most of Black Cat was taken from Mugen I thinkand yet she feels unique in your game so maybe it would work after all.

Do you think it would it be possible to have characters like Iron Man and Vision be able to fly backwards without turning around during the flying stage? Like maybe have one of the buttons that aren't used in the flying stage become a 'turn around' button instead? It would be nice to keep firing with Iron Man when moving backwards instead of facing the other way, but still being able to turn around as an option, just at a button press instead. Or was that intentional as a balance thing?

The Hawkeye and Brand updates sound useful :) I've sometimes wished I could scroll back through their ammunition. It's one of those small but convenient things.

In fact, no. Almos all sprites come from the same Arcade game ZVitor got the sprites too (I even use his running animation). There is only one move - the claw attack - which was edited from the Mugen version

It can be done, but it will can give me some trouble. I have to make some tests
