Streets of Rage X (Windows / Android)

In Progress Streets of Rage X (Windows / Android) Beta 33

No permission to download
The project is currently under development.
I downloaded this, but so far, my numerous attempts at trying to get it to run on my Neo Z1 Android 11 Emuelec box have proved futile. My only success thus far has been with archives packed simply enough with a .pak file, and an executable, which I can easily drag and drop to the OpenBor file. Any configuration different from that, no dice.
Keep in mind that there is no offiicial Emuelec OpenBOR port (I know it runs Android).
From your report, you are using Android 11 and this game uses a more recent version of OpenBOR (V4) which was made to match newer Android security settings.
My phone runs on Android 12 and I can run this game with no issue.

OpenBOR doesn't works like an emulator, where you can just put many games on the same folder. You need to use the same version the developer used to develop the game.

I left a review saying it was the best openbor version of a streets of Rage Game- I stand Corrected. After playing the remake/ and all three originals/ ...This version stands a bit higher in my opinion. I can't believe this is an openbor game... remarkable!!!!
Legitimately I just tried to play Remake for the first time in a while and I HATED the feel of it. It felt so slow (for me anyway, the enemies were having a whale of a time :V), the inability to juggle was throwing me off and just everything about it made me wish I was playing SoR X instead, and I honestly don't think I can ever play Remake again.

So whole-heartedly agree with this being the best SoR game out there.
@dreno @Psykai Thanks a lot, friends!! 😀 This kind of feedback gives me even more fuel to keep working.

I searched for "Neo Z1 Android" but could not find what kind of device is this. I have an Android 11 phone to make tests and the apk installer looks fine.

Are you trying to just move the pak file to make it work in other OpenBOR builds together with many other paks like rom/emulator does? If yes, it may not work, since the game was coded to work with only one engine build, the 7612.

In addition, the game was tested in Android phones only, and may not be compatible with other types of devices.

This is what I was referring to about the chopper appearing in indoor environments. I understand that the deck is seen as exterior, but there are parts of the ship on top that look like they're enclosed.
I understand your point. But in this case the Helicopter acts more like an illustration, does not really mean that it is really inside each environment, it can fly around and shoot aiming windows or other open spaces.

Curiously I always thought that even the areas where there's high walls were like outdoor spaces, partially closed.

In this image we can see that even if people are in the yellow area, the shot can come from the red area.

That probably makes sense. That would also explain the placement of the breakable vents.

I mean, if we're really going to critique something, let's critique this...

Lol this is true :ROFLMAO:

Additionally I always wanted to play a level using this part, as well as both SOR3 bike stages but walking normally. I will test it someday.

I understand why the chopper animation is preferred, as it's much quicker
Exactly, this is one of the reasons I used the chopper instead of the car. I even tested the car coming from the right side, but it didn't fit well.

I don't know what's worse, the firing angle or shooting right through the ceiling he's under
Yeah lol, totally agree.

Yeah lol, totally agree.
Funnily enough, in the Hunting Java SoRR mod I made with DonVecta, I did exactly that. A level using these assets, but as a walking thing, with doors leading into the hotel itself at the end. Would be cool to see that done by a professional.

Great! Do you have a video of this mod?

I'm afraid not :( I haven't been involved with the project for over 10 years. I left it in Don's hands 'cause I was dealing with some bad mental health that made it so I wasn't really fit to work on it any more. I think I still have the mod somewhere but it's a bit broken due to missing enemy names, palettes, etc. But if I can dig it out tomorrow I'll see if I can record it 'cause that stuff won't matter as long as the stage itself looks fine lol.

No problem, friend. Don't worry in case you don't find the mod, it's just to have an idea about how to build it properly.
But we can make a new one from scratch using the original sprites.

LOL, yeah.. I always laughed at that as a kid. I don't know what's worse, the firing angle or shooting right through the ceiling he's under.

DC

Same here. That was partly why we always used it when we got to the very top, just to see the absurdity. 😄

I also found a funny visual where if you throw an enemy off the edge & call the cops, you'd see the enemy keep falling or something.
Will see if I can recreate it.

Maybe that could be an alternate route/choice?
Take the elevator up or continue walking from the factory to here & this lead in to Streets 2 perhaps?

Or maybe make stage 6 work like stage 5, where you can select a different path for the next stage and we can use this one (like sor1 st7b).
Then, at the end of this stage we can put another elevator as an illustration to tell the player that it will lead to the same stage 8.

Yeah, even better!
