Wow!! I'm so glad you remember all those details, oldmanwinters! I do not recall the other episode where the Zoo appeared. I guess in my country they didn't show all the episodes. Thankfully I do own the whole show, I just haven't had the time to watch the whole thing.

Definitely give em a watch if you get the opportunity!

The Manhattan zoo had crummy security if eccentric villains and colorful mutants could come and go as they pleased!

So, I finally got my new computer (the old one no longer works) and I am now able to keep working on my TMNT openBOR game. This is a Zoo level where you get to see the warthog and rhino that eventually get used to mutate Bebop and Rocksteady into their more "popular" form. I still wanna add more details, like people looking at the animals and stuff but I just wanted to show what I have so far. Here's the video:

Looking real good. There's some warm feeling in seeing 8-bit style graphics with layering, good coloring and other stuff. :P

Just few pointers in the scene:

  • Add a few signs in front or around the cages. Zoos always have signage for the animals they have. Keep it simple, just the sign sprite with dots as the writing. :P
  • What's a zoo without ice cream stalls? You could use some from the stage 1 from TMNT 3 for reference.
  • That guy and his dog in the end are a lot larger than the turtles and foot soldiers. I think they could be reduced.

Besides that, it is looking fantastic. Keep it up.

@oldmanwinters: Will do, man!

@BeasTie: Thanks a lot, man!! Much appreciated. Long time no see!

@Don Vecta: Thanks a lot! Yeah, I wanna add some more details. The guy on the bench was actually larger I did reduce him a little bit. It should be easy to do. Thanks again!

Thanks a lot Bloodbane :)

I was thinking the same thing. This level is still work in progress so I can definitely make changes to it.

So, I posted a video on youtube of my TMNT MOD (that I've been working on for years now). And I got some pretty good feedback. One person asked me to make another TMNT game based on TMNT2 and TMNT3 for the NES and I was actually quite happy with the progress that I was making. I was particularly happy with the fact that since on the other TMNT MOD I'm working on I'm drawing every single sprite from scratch, I was making very slow progress cause I would have to finish the animation on Photoshop before adding a particular move to the character. So here I am, thanks to this request from my friend I'm learning how to use the OpenBOR engine better instead of paying too much attention to the graphics (which are just a gimmick), I'm more focused on "gameplay" (which is the main thing). I did take the time to re-color the sprites since due to the limitations on the NES hardware the graphics did not reproduce all the colors properly. I also change something on the turtles from TMNT2, there is some space between the eyes (so you can now tell they have two eyes), since I always thought that in the original NES game they all looked like cyclops. Here is a "sprite comparison" image that should allow you to appreciate the difference between the original sprites an the ones I re-colored

Here's a link to download the .PAK file:

Sorry, but the title music in your game is not 8-bit styled. Fix it.

I don't really think it's an issue. It sounds good and somehow fits... but it's up to the creator to do so.

BTW, don't you think it's better to suggest instead of just order to do something?

Seems you're not getting it, Darkwhateveryournicknameis, you're not asking politely, you're demanding. That's rather uncalled for.

Darkwarrior Driver Moon is Natsume's dark form in Codename: Nightstar.
"Fix it" means as "deal with it". If GaBoTiCo did 8-bit styled game, he must find and use full 8-bit styled OST.

You *still* don't get it. You are NOBODY to make demands into Gabotico's game. At most, you can give suggestions or ideas in a very polite manner, and yet you'll see if the modder feels like changing or not. He's not obliged to do you bidding! And now I'm 99.9% sure he will NOT change that just for the condescending tone of the request.

Seems to me that the only win-win solution here would be for DDM to pay you on commission!  ;D

Lol, oldmanwinters! I'm doing this out of love for TMNT. If anything, maybe I should be the one paying for being able to use such a GREAT engine as OpenBOR.

Yeah, why don't you pay me, huh? Darkdude Whatever, since you're so demanding, you must be a billionaire  or something...

Wait isn't this game a recolor of 8bit sprites sometimes having a bit more color than 8bit games so it would  make sense because its an upgrade to have the music the creator added because its not the original game its a remake which means better everything.  Good job man looks great so far. :P

YES!!! esn23, that is EXACTLY what I'm going for. ALL of the sprites have been recolored to have a "cartoon shading", also NOT all the sound FX are 8-bit and the theme song to me was a MUST for the title screen since the games were based on the cartoon. Thanks a lot, esn23, Much appreciated!!

So, I've been working on some "Background Characters". April obviously is not one of them but I needed  her as a reference so that the other characters would have similar size and proportions. The Skater Girl was already on TMNT2 NES but I did "recolor" her and the other characters I had to draw from scratch using screenshots from the cartoon as a reference. I'm also working on a new level but it's not good enough to show yet. I hope you like these sprites:

Thanks, oldmanwinters  :)

I had a feeling you would be one of the first ones to recognize those characters. I have "at least" two more levels based on Turtle Tracks.
