One idea that I've been having was that we can choose to play as the fully playable NPC's we unlock if you plan on making them more like playable characters as from what I see above, or by holding down a certain button combo like the block and special buttons we can play as the "NPC" variants of them locking onto enemies and all.
 
Every time I see some progress on this amazing project, I remember at one time it will be possible to add new characters...

Hi friend. I don't know if I understand correctly but if you are referring to having enemies as cpu partners it's already planned, currently only Abadede is available. In future updates every enemy/boss can be selectable as a cpu partner.

Every time I see some progress on this amazing project, I remember at one time it will be possible to add new characters...
Hey man, sorry to not post anything in the last months, but indeed the progress is more related to the engine than the game.

What I mean by this is that you pretty much become the NPC instead of just the playable versions of them. I notice that you plan on adding in some sprites and such to make them function a bit more like playable characters, so it would be a nice little easter egg to make it to where a specific button combo lets us be the NPC.

Finally, after a few years since the SORX was announced as a continuation of the SOR2X, I'm happy to say that the first public beta version is now available to download.

There's a lot of changes compared with the SOR2X, most of them already published in all my social media and here in the forum. Now the game is using the upcoming OpenBOR v4.0 as base, which contains a huge number of fixes and improvements.

Basically SORX is closer to the classics in many aspects but maintaining the improvements added on SOR2X and a few from SOR4, ending up on creating its own gameplay style.

The official SORX launch will only happen when all the planned content is finished, I will show the complete list in another post. Until then I will maintain the beta state, where the game is subject to big changes. The same goes to the OpenBOR v4.0, which is in beta state under constant development and not available officially yet.

Considering the current progress of the game, I can now post more updates and occasionally make some random betas available for download. During this time, any feedback is always welcome.

The wonderful Maestro Draven tracks are not present in this version due to some remaining adjustments, but I'm preparing it for the next beta.

As I stated on the Youtube channel there's sadly a brand new problem that IDK what is causing it. Every time when I got to the character select if it's the default cast or the NPCs/bosses it'll constantly crash. This happened when I was playing as one of the SOR1 bosses, then when I cleared the level I was able to pick my character to Robo X and I got through part of the first section but after that it just randomly crashed on me and it no longer goes to the character select screens.
 
Now the bosses are actually challenging. Thanks!

Things to note:
Run type SOR3 doesn't work.
Some sound effects doesn't fit with the original ones: Ash boat, bikes, SOR1 stage 2 wind, recovery sound... Maybe you could find actual genesis SFXs to replace those.

Congratulations on the release @Kratus, and thank you for all the help with bug testing and implementing! SORX isn't just a good game, it's been a perfect use case module. :)

Please, could you record a video to show me the problem? I saw your youtube msg right now but you wrote a different issue related to the save file. I recommend not closing the Android app during a playthrough mainly when a level is finished or restarted because it can corrupt your save files.

The first thing that I can suggest is to erase your saves folder completely and see if it solves the problem. To be honest I made several full playthroughs but didn't notice this kind of issue, so it would be good if you can give more info about it and then I can take a closer look at it.

Thanks for the feedback, the SOR3 run type issue is confirmed, I will check it. Indeed some things were updated in this code and will be an easy fix.
About the sounds, these new ones are intentional. Indeed the sfxs are split in 4 types now (sor1/2/3/X), some were added and others were replaced by ones I think are better, like the "shock" sound.
However, if you send me others I can make some tests, I'm open to suggestions.

Here is what I can offer you to expand and embellish the universe of this game:
- recolored characters with separate colors (it's in progress for all basic characters)
- new prototype characters like D.Bear (the SOR1 prototype boss) or even God Hand, Black Bird and Pink Typhoon
- Exclusive Game Gear and Master System stages (like the Tracker's Lair and the Ringmaster's Factory)
- A new route made up of 8 completely original courses called Streets of Nightmare

I'm planning to look at the smart palette near the end of the development, but I like the idea of backing to the SMS/GG content first.
I will organize the "todo" list required for the official launch and will post here in a few days.
 
Hey, another sugestion. Look this video:

The Adam here has a different moveset with more cohesive art style. I would borrow at least the blitz, ->A special and the 3 star blitz, maybe even the running animation and the deffensive special too, though I like the current one with the wolf head effect. Also, I would change the attacks SFX with green instead of blue, like in SOR4.

I believe the hack can be found on Steam if I'm not mistaken.

I saw this hacks some years ago but I didn't find the sprites. The run animation looks a bit weird but the special moves are interesting.
I will try to find the hack again, thanks for the idea.

Awesome! But, is their any way to create a pak with this? I'm only able to play these games on my mini consoles.
Sorry friend, currently it's not available but certainly in future updates will be.
