Nice dude. You sell pretty good, and you've got that Sobat down to a science.

Where is the Sobat there DC? Pretty bad question, but just curious on what you mean.

And yeah, you guys do some arnis here? I mean, Nikki Shore does arnis, and although i watched a few moves from YouTube, dunno if you guys did some before.

That's just shothand for a jump spinning back kick. nsw works his into matches with almost no telegraphing.

Never heard of "arnis" before. I'll have to look into it.

I know this is my first time on this thread about martial arts, but you guys ever heard of Shinsei Hapkido Kempo Jutjitsu? It's a fighting style i practiced back then when i was involved with a Christian martial arts academy during my time in Minnesota and i am currently on my orange belt until i moved away to St. Louis, Missouri back in the summer 2011. I've practicing that fighting style by myself ever since.

I think last time I've got into a real fight was like 3 years ago. Two guys had robbed me using guns (and one of them was too far away for me to react) when I was about to enter in my house. Then 2 weeks later, when I was geting out of the bus, two young dudes said me to stop because they wanted my cell phone.

But this time, they were with bare hands, and then it was a different story. I kicked one of the dudes with a front kick right in the face and it was over.

I  started (or they made me start, my parents) with Shotokan Karate, but the master was kind of a dictator, always humiliating his disciples (in fact all the other masters said he wasn't teaching Karate the good way... man I wish he was more Miyagi stuff, he was Karate Kai sort of person  :( ). About 2 years ago I've met him into the new town where I live.. he opened a new "dojo" and wanted 300€ per month. He quitted, now there's a dance school.
I also practiced a bit of JKD, but after breaking my master's right shoulder by accident I felt so much guilty I quitted myself. But I still read Bruce Lee's books or watch his movies once in a while.
I also practiced Capoeira, but I've been kicked in the nuts lol so I quitted... and anyway I got what I wanted (not the kick in the nuts, but the basics... don't really want to flip or walk with my hands). Another reason to quit that course: it was some kind of a voodoo sect and some people in there were scary to hell.

Now I just punch the bag once in a while,  I'm a nonviolent vegan anyway, I don't like to mess around with people Pain is a bad thing, one should not inflict pain.

If there's any new style I'd learn that would be Aikido (or jujitsu.... or whatever Steven Seagal uses to click-clack disarm the aggressors... hell I like his style).

I necromance this thread in the name of weird concepts!

remember about 2  or 3 years ago when some people  did the Saitama challenges?

well Old friend Olll0lllO & i did the same thing, but with a twist - it all starts with a bunch of exercises and the goal is to increase repetitions by 10 everytime you get to do it again, so lets say you do 20 pushups at first - evetually you end up doing thousands (in theory) - it is too bad that personally i cant do more than 40 - after 3 years that was the most i could do in consecutive fashion - altho added up  managed to do about 400 "good ones" intermitently

half pushups i got up to about 1200 all added up

We also used Dragon ball Kinect as a training tool - the rules are as follows:

you start with the strongest character & beat the score mode using only punches & kicks - and during the automatic parts you must try to imitate the moves you see on screen - to finish the opponent you must use A Chi attack (like a kamekameha) in between rounds  - pushups- if you loose you repeat the level until you beat your opponent.
adfter you beat all characters in all sagas , you repeat everything with the next lowest character

At the moment im stuck with Frieza.

Either way - it is not healthy at all - just when i hit the 135 wheighted squats mark - i busted one knee - but had 8 more months to go - so when it was over i got a lot of endurance out of it, but not much strenght.

around July the 3 years where over & i got lazy - but kept using the old body as i where still training & suffered the conscequences
(funny, while 'training' you can get away with lots of things on your day to day)

anywhoo - a well made dragon-ball style game that uses full body motion sensors (like the best ones for VR chat), would be awesome
for lazy undisciplined  idiots like me...

PS: the blasted training did not do any favors to my physique - instead of looking like an Atlas or a michael Angelo's David - I look like F#$@#N Chimp

Yikes dude, 135 squats? Yeah you were kind of asking to get hurt.

Training really is 90% mental discipline. But it's not just about pushing yourself. You also have to show discipline to follow a proper regimen and give it time to work. To not overtax one part of your body or look for a quick fix.

I'm not a kinesiologist, but I do have plenty of martial arts, gymnastics, outdoor sports, and general fitness background. I'd be happy to offer some advice to anyone on here looking to start up a fitness routine.

Not really martial arts, but in the same echelon:

This year I'm taking up a new challenge: long distance trail racing. I've signed up for some 50k and 100k races starting in September. That's well beyond my normal range, and only ~8 months to train. No clue if I have what it takes... but there's only one way to find out!

The worst part is, i would have not if i had quit the session @ 106 like i was supposed to...
but the music i had on was cool enough that i "Synqued" with it and went beyond.
Another mistake is that as soon as i felt pain i went ahead & did 50 & 50 squat dips, i did pull them off, but at the end i was not able to bend nor straighten the knee.

Another thing about the squats - there is an old man out there who has a guiness record for doing thousands - granted he is tiny & thin probably uses no weight & they are probably not conscecutive - & wors it was 3 years ago & cant find any info of him at the moment - i believe he was a doctor

another record:

"The most squats performed in one hour is 4,708 by Paddy Doyle (UK) at Stamina’s Boxing Self Defence Gym in Erin Go Bragh Sports Centre, Birmingham, UK, on 8 November 2007."

Good luck -

Man i would love to run, but i can't afford shoes - if i run they get destroyed in about 3 weeks - that is why i came up with the dragon ball thing for cardio

another thing i used to do is use Fzero X with a stationary bike, using "imagination" i would pretend to accelerate with the pedals what you saw on the screen
-
I did manage to mod f1 world grand prix for the n64 to work in this fashion , but it was not perfect & not as exciting - to make things worse , Fzero games have no way to accelerate using the analogue, so the hack would not work.

The stationary bike was a passed down possesion & Moms got rid of it by he second time i had to stay @ the old place - AAARGGGG
ME hacked bike! >:(

Hello, i think this video has a a very important message, if any of you have the time please watch:

He, he,
sorry its, because i have literally seen people in person that get so distracted by big video windows, that they don't read anything else
i thought about using colors, but i think about color blind peoples & dogs that we don't know they dogs because of internet

PS, for those that only read the last post of topics, here is the video link again.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjbSCEhmjJA
spoiler alert: contains a compelling story of greater importance that many may realize...

I must be missing something. There's not a single peice of information in that video relevant to anyone who isn't under 5 or otherwise delusional enough to think life runs on anime logic. Neither of whom would listen anyway.

I've noticed other members losing patience with you, and I am beginning to as well. We welcome your enthusiasm but you need to temper it with a bit of prudence.

Short version: Please stop spamming up topics with non-sequitur posts unless you actually have something to contribute.

Well, it is easy to miss & i would hate to spoil it.

& 2, for those that may read the topic casually, it shows an aspect of martial arts that has not been explored much.

As for the part that caught my attention
it is relevant to the topic tho & maybe in a later post i might go on & invite folks to explore/discuss it further.

even without the part that caught my interest, it is still a well made video & worth of attention &
may be interesting to those that may read the topic by accident/casually ...

Was out exploring a semi-abandoned rail path and trestle today, posts about it are here and here. Anyway, while out there I just started messing around for no good reason. Cut me a break on the back handspring - I know the form isn't great, but landing one at all on ballast rock has to count for something right? I'd also like to think throwing spinning heel kicks while balanced on the rails isn't too shabby either. :)

nsw25 please make some live action digitised sprites out of Damon and put him in Bad ass babes as a secret character (Akuma) Make Damon the most Bad Ass Babe of them all.

I learnt the basics of a few styles Karate, muay thai boxing, wrestling but only for actual fighting purposes, I never really cared about the art of it or fitness aspects, I just wanted to hurt people as hard and as fast as possible. I used to watch loads of kung fu films growing up and I couldn't wait to be an adult so I could fight like that, was disappointed as a teen when I learned a well placed slap could knock someone out and people didn't actually fight in kung fu styles hahaha

used to lift weights a lot too but haven't touched a dumbbell in years due to an injury in my last fight, needed plastic surgery on my hand and lost some mobility, unfortunately age has caught up with me and I'm a dad now, I wear glasses, I'm soft both emotionally and physically and my back hurts, my days of scrapping are over, don't wanna be that 40 year old guy still rolling round with dudes on the floor and if I'm honest I'd probably just rather stab you now.

I have been thinking recently to get into doing kung fu styles for fitness, I have a garden now so have enough space to flop my large body around and get my heart rate up while pretending I'm Jackie Chan something like this

the spinning hook kick would be tough, not just on platform but on slippery metal.

Thanks! To be fair, the rail was rusted some, so it wasn't really slippery. I'm good... but not that good. Pretty sure if it was an active, fresh greased line I'd have been on my a**.  :-X

Hilarious as that would be danno, I'd have to decline even if you were serious and nsw25 was interested. I think BAB is a funny concept, but I'm afraid in this part of the world there's a lot of people who don't share my viewpoint. Even a minor association could have real life repercussions for me, up to and including affecting my career. That's also why I won't personally go out of my way to advertise it.

It's one thing to show off, but the essence of our system is brutal practicality - we learn the flashy techniques as a balance, timing, and speed building tool, and I'm not above using them to zone someone out in contact sparing. But if my old instructor caught me opening with something like that in a real fight, he'd probably jump in and pound me himself!  :P

I have had to handle myself a bit the past, and my tools are much more pedestrian. Mainly knees and elbows mixed with simple take downs. Ended several issues just using my reach to snatch the other guy's ankles and up end him. Few good stomps later and that's that. These days the main dangers I'm likely to meet are frightened bears or illegal pot farmers. Both are both pretty common in the back woods here and I've no intention of slugging it out with either of them. For that and other reasons you'll never see me unarmed.

Did enjoy boxing for a long time, but had to give it up because of my class schedule, and now the club is gone. As fitness goes I'm all over the map because I have such an eclectic set of hobbies - not great at anything but pretty good at most. The only really rough part is lifting with my cousin. He's twice my size and half my age.  :o

Have you ever thought of biking? I recently added that to my hobbies, and man... I went out for a short ride and accidentally wound up two towns over (about 35K one way). You can just lose yourself and it's an awesome low impact cardio tool. Might help you drop some of the weight you were talking about.
