martial arts

O Ilusionista

Captain 80K
So, anyone here pratice any Martial Arts?

I grew up doing Judo for many years. As a teenager, I did Kung Fu (Shaolin South Style) for some years, some training in wrestling and Jiu Jitsu with my older brother and then Kickboxing and Muay Thai.

On a Kickboxing fight, I had an accident which took me out of the game. I ripped my right leg tendon and I got immobilized for 6 months.
After that, I studied Kung Fu Serpent Style but my leg doesn't allows me to kick too high anymore so I quit. I am retired from it now.

Impressive!!

I practiced Hung-gar Kung-Fu (Hongjia). South style for almost 10 years.
And also few years of Wing Chun.

I retired from my practice when I started my art studies.

Since it, I have not passed a week without thinking about restart my practice  :-[
But like I always say, there are priorities in life  :)

I was a Goshin Jutsu disciple for almost 20 years; Godan rank. When I started working at UK a few years ago I joined the boxing club and could hold my own pretty good. Had to give it up last year though because it overlaps with my classes.

Before that there was a sort of "fight club" at the college in my hometown where guys from different styles would get together and take each other on in "genteman's full contact" (no small joint locks, eye gouging, etc. but otherwise anything goes). It was cool because we had a really diverse group so we all picked up little tips from each other.

I still keep up training, but only on my own; my instructor is LONG since retired and I never took up with any other studios.

This is me just jacking around on a light bag - I hadn't even changed out of my office clothes. :P

when i meet ilusionista around year 1999 or 2000  i was a wing chun student, that was a cool time and i also have mugen project inspired on that time.

but nowadays i dont pratice any martial arts, i only do some workouts at gym 5 days week

I studied boxing for 6 years while living in Detroit. Since then I've taken Traditional Karate for 2 years while learning instances of Tae Kwon Do from the same teacher, I desire to take Jeet Kun Do and Tai Chi. Micheal J White has inspired me to learn Tai Chi as he displays it very well in the movie "Blood and Bone."

many fighters here, huh?
I had minor lessons on TaeKwonDo, Capoeira and Hapkido, but not THAT great.

but a funny moment was when I got my older brother, a JJ fighter, on a Sharpshooter (wrestling move). He always said that you can't use wrestling moves on a real fight, until I got it on that move :)

You'd be very surprised how effective it can be. Yeah most of the showy stuff is useless, but you can say the same for the vast majority of striking techniques found across any discipline. By definition, wrestling itself IS a martial art; a lot of "pro wrestling" and pretty much all "amateur wrestling" is still derivative of the original occidental and eastern doctrines. When applied properly it can be devastating (Goshin Jutsu is essentially a blend of Karate, Jujutsu and Greco Roman wrestling techniques).

Like any other techniques the keys are simplicity, timing and most of all, experience.

agree, also commitment to a move, sometimes people have doubt in there heads just before they perform a move or during and that's what ruins the technique. If you commit to a move 100% it will be effective.

Very true. It's just like Bruce Lee said: “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who had practiced one kick 10,000 times.”

I practice American Kenpo Karate, MMA, and some Jujitsu. I used to go to a studio all the time, but now I practice with my big brother in our garage every other day.

Bruce Lee also said "Don't think, feeeeeel." This one statement means sooo much. nsw25 reminded me of this when he was talking about 100% commitment to a move

Gotta love Bruce Lee quotes ;D I especially like: "Be water, my friend." I interpret it as being able to adapt, and flowing with your movements in martial arts.

I am aware of that. And Judo was influenced by Wrestling in many aspects.

About Capoeira, let me fix something I said: you don't FIGHT capoeira, you PLAY capoeira.
