Golden Axe Remake

Complete Golden Axe Remake 1.5

Project is completed.
@pleiades7bluestars and @shirakani : Thank you for all these compliments :) . I don't intend to leave this project without continuation, knowing that I still have a lot of images to draw. I would also like to add the green dragon from Golden Axe 2 and adapt it to the arcade remake format.

Hi there! Welcome!!

My preferred version is the 4:3 two player version. However, it is the buggy one with messed up F/X (like the water at the turtle village being black) and some enemies being invincible.

Has the 4:3 version been fixed? Is there a working version WITHOUT some of these extra changes you added (i.e. like the minotaur, etc.)

For the moment, the 4:3 GAremake is the definitive version, as long as the bugs are fixed.

I tried out the widescreen version but it is really a mess to be honest. The widescreen ruins the overall tone of the game. The original was a rare example of a sublime game, a masterpiece. Any changes should build on that, not change it IMAO.

For instance, there ARE bosses on the level 2 and level 4. The Skelton is the level 2 boss. And the ghosts/shadows on the Eagle are the bosses.

GA uses double dragon logic where repetition of enemies with different colors is the style of the game.

That said, I think there is a real missed opportunity here.

If someone were to take the 4:3 version of GAremake and build on that while respecting the rules of the GA universe in a way that allows the game to evolve, that could be a real treat.

There is certainly room for extended levels, more player characters, and that sorta thing. But this version of the game has too many clashing elements. The decap-attack is being handled wrong. In the Japanese arcade version of Golden Axe, the effect is similar to TMNT 2, with the mode 7 effect. The sprite of the head has to be EXACT, and maybe it is too hard to replicate that using the code changes here. I wouldn't know how to do that because I'm a middle aged game reviewer with ZERO coding experience, haha.

Not hating here. Just being honest.

In the meanwhile, is there a fixed version of the 4:3 version? For the moment, I use reshade me and some nifty post processing effects to flesh it out and make it pop. But, the buggy version is a real bummer. Hoping there is a working version of that game.

If you didn't saw there are some Genesis Roms recolored for Golden Axe 1 and 2 like this *links removed danno

they Are not Roms! just hacked part of them. You need original games roms that are not of course linked!

Trust us, Giampaolo Sacripanti. You don't want to cross a Moderator. Take is from someone with experience.

Sega is wasting time... They should call these guys to make an official remake of the first Golden Axe! The artistic DNA of this art is very reminiscent of the new Ninja Turtles game produced by Tribute Games.
It would be incredible to have bigger sprites in an actual Golden Axe game (+ keeping mostly the base design just like here)

The sprite work is great, but for a Golden Axe I prefer less colorful to continue with the vibe of the original game which was less cartoony and more “kinda serious”, more epic.

Hello, everyone. New to the forum and OpenBor gaming. I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I really wanted to thank uTunnels for making the Golden Axe Remake - Special Edition. It's currently my go to version of the game, mostly thanks to the option to play music from different platforms during gameplay, as well as the addition of blood and new special moves.

I also began following the work on the continuation of the project from this thread. I cleaned up the decapitation intro from the Japanese arcade version of Golden Axe so that there's no "insert coin" info on the screen. I'm intending to use it as one of the intros for a slightly modified version of the special edition for personal use. Perhaps someone here might find it useful as well, so allow me to link to it here: GA-decap

I'm also working on a clean version (no character sprites) of the blood-dripping character selection screen from the Japanese version. If someone's interested in that, please let me know.

Thanks again for your work!

I apologize deeply for not telling you sooner, @kimono, but I'm the one who uploaded the latest version of the mod to your website.
I am fully aware that you are the creator, and, if you misinterpreted my listing as the author of this mod as me stealing your work, I am terribly sorry.
The external download link to the latest version had been down all this time, without any attempt to, let alone mention being made of, fixing it.
Thus, I uploaded your mod to ChronoCrash so that it would be available to the public once again, instead of being completely lost.

Need to do something with these goblins, in this part with some new openbor versions, cant advance because the goblin stays there forever.... And dont leave.

Would be nice if they would have a timer like the original game to avoid this?

What its ideal openbor version tu run it? Because in windows folder theres only the .pak

PD: Nice game, i like it. Thanks.

You're telling me that this was done by A.I.?

Yes. It's one of a whole flood of montages that are all over YouTube made with generative ANI. Nowhere near ready for actual production yet, but maybe in a few years we'll get there.
