i think everybody who develop something that take much time and dont have deadlines or milestones to be reached has felt it at least once

what you do when this felling happend? (the productivness start to be very slow, you get lazy, start to procastinate so much, you start to think in another cool mod ideas and such...)

i had this in the final part of marvel wargems and started another game to take a break from that plot, but im still cant continue that game because i got lazy workin on it, and working on fantastic four i still motivated and full of ideas and improvements

and you? what you do when this felling comes? start anotehr game? take a break? watch things to get back the inspiration?
i like to hear about your experiences dealing with it :)

i think at least with me on openbor projects i have some kinds of peaks of motivation and berserker hyper focus on proeject then it was vanishing until i start to procastinate much

when i started work with marvel wargems i was very cautious and had a kanban board, set up deadlines and such to reach my goals in the project, then my life changed and i had no more free time to work on it with all day, and started to work when i got some free time to it.. until i started to get bored with the plot, and started to design anothers projects and i started to lose focus on it.

the fantastic four have the same game play and i love this part on the project, but last night i have started to put in the paper how cool could be a hulk vs the world game..., i cant lose the focus one again i want to create many marvel games for openbor.

so i think the best way is to focus on smaller games compatible with each other (like marvel did hulk movie, iron man movie, cpatain america movie and then avengers getting them all)

so im starting to think smaller games will be the key to keep me focused on the current project without think on the next and so on...

I had similar problems as well while working on Crime Buster v2.5 and Contra : Locked 'N' Loaded.
Usually I motivate myself by playing other games, beat'm ups or shooter games. Afer I gained fun from playing those, I resume modding :).
However the best motivation comes from playing those mods even if they were incomplete. The fun I had is great to finish those mods. Especially if I found bug, I can't wait to fix it right away ;).

Though I have to admit, it's tough motivating myself when doing less important stuffs such as cutscenes, intro and dialogues. I forced myself finishing these cause I keep telling myself that my mod is about to be released and it needs those!

Oh god, I try so hard to psych myself up to mod but it's so hard when you finally have a powerful laptop to run almost anything in normal PC couldn't run, and having this 8 hour job, buying new games every week. Last Friday, I ordered a copies of Astal and Scud: the disposable assassin, both for the Sega Saturn. Forums to talk on, and friggin youtube. Then, when I'm actually working, I get so little done in a considerable amount of time, and only able to get a little more done if I stay up past 5 a.m. to about 7 a.m. at the most. Not to mention I've been working on multiple mods since 2008, with none of them done. Man, I wish I had the motivation to mod like I did back when I first started..... you know what, I'm gonna mod right now, and get back to remaking MegaSonic, a messed up txt lost me a lot of time.  :o

Me? I start another one. Working on one mod for too long gets old, and trying new things keep it fresh. Once I've made good progress on the second mod, I go back to the previous one I was working on. And the cycle continues.

The downside is, I have 40+ different mods on my HDD that I've worked on. Some I'll never touch again, others I'll pick up after a year or two. And I understand that for you guys, that's mega lame, as that means I rarely finish a mod. But it keeps me happy and interested in the engine. I'll never run out of ideas, and God willing, I'll make time to act on them.

I am bad at finishing things. I start things to learn and when it becomes just work I get bored. I am aware I do this so I try to make my mods simple so its at least possible if I release a demo and disappear then someone else can pick it up and work on it. I enjoy making games but I haven't have the patience to play them for years.
I know what you mean Bloodbane, sound effects and cut scenes are a chore.

^Yo becker, nice to see ya man.  ;D

Just to keep myself working, I'm gonna start coming up with goals for myself. I have 2 Sega Saturn games that came in the mail yesterday morning, Astal and Scud: The Disposable Assassin. After I finish this post, I won't stop to play those games till after I get a certain amount of work done on Megasonic again, and even after I finish one, I'll do some more again before playing the next. I think if those of us loosing motivation, committed to getting a little done each time, it will help in the long run when we finally decide to sit down and work on them for real. I'll even post what I got done in a new topic and update it each time to show it.
Anyone else thinks this is a good idea?  8)

I have the same problem often lose motivation but i just wait untill i get it back sometimes i just get in the mood to mod.  Setting targets should help and knowing people are wanting to play your mod can help too

I watch source material to get motivated again, also i try to plan everything from the start so i wont add stuff in the middle of the game which would require to edit all 10 characters again.

10? Try about 60, each with 3 txt files to edit. Then again, I've been working on Sega Brawlers for almost 4 years so I'm bound to add something new.

I don't know how I'm gonna say about my own. I might explain this in list, not in paragraph(s).

- Helping Taskmaster on Unelmia for learning how to do scripts and such, even with challenge (while not workin' on Dragon Duo)
- Learning how to do CVS (Capcom Vs SNK) spriting style mostly for my Dragon Duo mod
- I do work on both projects at the same time sometimes
- Recently, I record tutorials while working/doing on Dragon Duo (I will be interested in adding audio/sounds for the videos)

That's exactly why you need to focus and get a strict plan :)

Yeah, but there's still the 4 year thing to, on account of mod I keep adding to as well. I'm actually hoping that DropV thing was the last big change with all the characters.

Play beat em ups that relate to what I'm modding, bigger examples being
Yakuza, Streets of Rage, Final Fight series, Occasionally Anarchy Reigns which will become more frequent when I buy it for the ps3. Also helps playing them with my kids lol, they can't get enough of the games even though most of the time they're constantly jumping or using the special moves xD

I like to play games with similar overall gamplay with my project.
I prefer old underated games with unusual features.

The problem is, it give me so much ideas, I can't apply most of them on openbor.
But yes, playing other games is one of the best thing to do.
