OpenBOR for Android [APK]

It works, with paks included? Nice. Can you post a screenshot of it?

BTW, to enable gamepad, open OpenBOR (select a pak from the menu if you have more than one in it), go to Options > Control Options. There is a 'Gamepad Disabed' thing, if it's such, press enter/space to set it to enabled.

I think you could use a bluetooth keyboard or use the software keyboard to set it at first.

After enabling, you could press 'Setup Player 1' to set up your controller.

Let me know what happens and again the screenshots.

No, no, no. You missunderstood me  ;D

I havent tested the firetv yet. I first have to find out which files I have to install/copy in which place on the device. Until now I couldnt find an easy howto for the android port

Ok. I installed the .apk and copied "the burning fox" in the Paks folder. I started Openbor and the game started too. But I couldnt do anything. Whether the remote nor the gamepad worked.

I then downloaded "Super Final Fight Gold" and copied it in the paks folder. Now I started openbor and could see the menu (to choose which .pak to start).
But the only thing I could do there is pressing "A2" to switch between "repeat on and off.

Oh sorry bout misinterpreting that. But glad that you've installed it

Anyway, you tried putting a keyboard there like I said?

It works  :D
I put a mouse on the firetv and then I can start a mod (the "start" touch button).  Now my gamepad works without anything to do. It doesnt matter if gamepad support is enabled or not. It just works. But you should set a button for "start", so you can end a game.

If I could start a mod without mouse everything would be fine  ;)

Btw. I use the Xiaomi Gamepad and FireTV 1st gen (FireOS3, based on Android 4.2)

Next week I can try the new FireTV with FireOS5 (Android 5.1)

Glad that you did. Although it's best that you enable your gamepad and defined all the other keys to your gamepad as well. the keybinding affects the entire engine, so you don't need to struggle with using the mouse everytime.

Tell me if OpenBOR on fireos5 works, if you got the new fireTV now. I'm just wondering since again, problems with that android build.

OK. I tested the new FireTV with FireOS5. It works the same as wih the "old" FireTV  :). No difference.
But I have another little problem with my Xiaomi gamepad:
1. @ CRxTRDude
You said the keybinding affects the entire engine, but I cannot see any difference. It is not possible to choose a mod and start it without a mouse.

2. With the new FireOS 2 buttons have another function now. The menu button (hamburger button) has the ame function as "home". And the back (or exit) button opens the menu?

Nice to hear. at least it's sure that it ran on the OS, probably something in it that allows for cross compatibility.

Anyway, what I mean is that the config applies to every mod, so controls set up on one mod should work on all as long as gamepads are enabled. (Dunno about the menu though, someone in the dev team should clarify and someone else could add to this as well, because i haven't been using OpenBOR with gamepads, since I got the keyboard)

For the new buttons, I think the 'Enter' key probably became bound on the back button by the OS (or maybe there was something in the code, I don't know), but if it doesn't annoy you, then it might be fine.

Unfortunately, with the looks of things right now, I'd say that we have to wait until Chrono Crash.

I think this maybe the problem is deeper in the code, mainly because out of the box, with no modification of video.txt and with few characters/scenes and scripting, saving works like a charm.

Maybe it's got something to do with the save state code that allowed something registered badly that when the save state is loaded, it might get caught up and crash and since the log doesn't even spit relevant information, we could never find out. I also think it has something to do with the resolution of the game (set via video.txt) too.

I can't say for sure until someone (like DC or Plombo) could investigate it further. Again, I'm no coder and I'm just stating theoretical speculations.

CRxTRDude: Hi. I tried my game in progress. the menu looks good but the game colors are bad. do you know why?
Could it be the .png format that is causing problems?

Why are there some Paks that won't load after the loading screen on Android?

OpenBOR is a PC app, and not all creators care about ports. You could be running into memory issues, or trying to run a module that isn't compatible with the version of OpenBOR that was ported to Android.

You won't find a universal solution because there isn't one. Every module is different and can have its own reasons for not working.

I tried to play bWWd's He-Man mod and it didn't load at all, and i thought it was a matter of resolution conflict since it's a huge game. Then I tried to load ZVitor's Justice League and Mortal Kombat games and same happened. I tried to test my own mod and damn, I knew it was coming.

Weird, I've played both games on my mobile with no issues.
And for sure, you need to use the same version the author used to develop the game.

He-man worked for me too. And the biggest problem i can think of is warnings the pc/linux port will ignore warnings and keep going making the developer think all is well but all other ports will crash on warnings check the log after playing your mod too see if there were any.

Also some mods are targeted at older builds and may need some small tweaks to work with newer builds.

Well, i can compile my own builds for he-man so it does work on android, im not sure which ones some of You guys have , maybe too old ones.
Now my gamepad on he-man and overall android build works to my surprise ! But i have to configure it when analog is pressed (red diode lights up) and my config in openbor says that these are buttons , button 25 , button 28 ETC, instead of X axis and all that.
So the issue is solved for me i think.
Android gamepads do work and my pads are cheap chinese ps2 knockoffs.
th

These work 100% but you have to press the button to light up analog diode, then start configuring it.

So now my setup for portable android gaming with chargin is USB C hub, cheapest one like this
Digital-Multiport-Adapter-Type-C-To-USB-3-0-USB-C-Multiport-Charging-Converter-HUB-For.jpg

I can connect usb c fast charging to passhrough charge while i connect to this hub usb gamepad , there are hubs with HDMI out so you can have portable console that connects to TV and keeps charging when you play, but my pixel 2xl doesnt support hdmi over usb.
So now i use this holder to play on gamepad and phone together:
Smartphone-Clamp-Game-Clip-Fit-For-Microsoft-Xbox-One-Slim-Controller-Mobile-Phone-Holder-For-XBOX.jpg

The best thing in this setup is that you can play 3 player mode with 3 gamepads !!!
I tried it just now and it works great ! 3 players over usb hub with charging on phone !
I planned to get rezor kishi usb c gamepad with passthrough charge but i bought knockoff of it much cheaper that should arrive in 3 days, now im using this setup.
My phone is pixel 2xl but i recommend something with CPU Snapdragon 855 , Kirin 980 or higher for ps2 60fps and psp 60fps emu, everything except ps3 works really nice ! Crazy.

bWWd the latest android build in the master branch has a updated version of sdl that might have helped with joypad support.

Great job ! Its supercool to play multiplayer on one phone.I have 4 gamepads with "analog" button and they work, but i also have 2 gamepads without this button and  dpad doesnt work so its a gamble.
I installed win7 again on my pc so my enviroment for cpompiling is gone so id have to redo it again soon.

About openbor for android... Is it possible to save paks or data folders to sd card instead of internal memory? How? And is it possible to install several versions of Openbor on the same mobile?
