In Progress Creating a TMNT mod suggestions comments ideas?

The project is currently under development.
If you guys are making 2 different games, there should be 2 different threads as this could confuse alot. For brainstorming and sprite-share, you guys could have this thread.

For stages, I got one but, I don't know if this fits you guys.
There could be a prehistoric level with Dinasaurs like in TMNT Turtles In Time. Could be a level for Slash or any other mutant character. You guys could use those 3 games to mix it and make something new out of it. I might do something aswellwith those.


TMNT Turtles In Time (Snes) : Has a lava vulcano level with Dinasaurs.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time 4 player Netplay Arcade game

TMNT Tournament Fighters (Genesis) : Has a stage with a Dinasaur with eggs.

I wanted to make Slash and a stage for him but his sprites don't really fit well with the Tournament Fighters style sprites.

So far I have the first stage done

Stage 1: 3 Acts
all for a NY Streets type of level

Stage 2: 3 acts
A Dark Alley
outside of a Abandoned Building
Interior of Abandoned Building

The Final Stage
Foot Clan Dojo
Foot Clan HQ exterior

I maybe have a solution for your problem with slash, but it would be a lot of spritework for you.

Afaik Slash in the Cartoon and in the Archie Comics was a little bulkier as the Turtles, and in the IDW Comics he is even damn huge.

So why don't you use Sprites of Raph end Leo from the Sega version of Tournament Fighters to create your own Slash?
They are a little bigger but I think it would still work.

The Sprites of the Sega Turtles have some face expressions, that would make it easy to create the crazy/angry look of Slash.


I made a simple edit to show you how Slash could look like, I changed the Head and the colors, removed 1 Sai and added a Claw, I used some spikes from Tokka because I realy suck at creating this stuff. xD

I can try to find some Stages that could fit in your categories.
 
That could be a really good work around actually I may try to do that thanks for the sprite and the idea man.

I actually finished those stages I listed already know I'm just trying to make more new ones but I'm still a little stuck as far as stage inspiration goes.

Sadly I can't help much except for ideas and suggestions, because I'm not so good at editing sprites etc.  :'(

2 different harbor stages, one from Denjin Makai and the other one is from Voiland Storm, they could be used for a fight against Armaggon.

I like the Ninja Warriors stage I'm going to try to rip the SNES versions tho the game looks better graphics wise. I created a sewer stage for leatherhead using the old tmnt sewer but these are solid ideas I'm sure Beastie appreciates them as well. Any help especially ideas are a huge help so thanks man.

That look's awesome, great idea!  A perfect looking Slash!  I was going to try with the SNES sprites but this will work so much better. :)

Thanks also for stage suggestions, most I had in mind already but a few I didn't have.  I'm using those Final Fight train stages already, thou currently borrowed from other mods.  We covered the classics like final fight etc.  Just looking for anything we had overlooked or perhaps are less known.  All suggestions are welcome thou!

Final Fight style is basically what I'm going for thou.  Or at least stages that will match this style.  I will be using a lot of stuff from sailor moon, there is some perfect looking stages (all at night time).  I was remaking stages from Manhattan Missions, there will be a series of 'waterfront' stages and I will use stuff like those Denjin Makai stages and the sailor moon stuff for it.  Changing most stages to be at night time thou.

Slash looks excellent there. He was always wider compared to the other TMNT.

The very first stage in TMNT Turtles In Time (Snes) is on a bridge.

Super Double Dragon (Snes) has a stage where a truck passes over a bridge.

Turtles could fight on something like this while the truck passes the bridges. It could be a variation for the bridge in TMNT Turtles In Time.

There are some good levels in Super Double Dragon. You could definitly look at that game.

Thx I was a little surprised about result of my sprite editing.  ;D

I could save you both some work if you like and make some small edits for the required sprites to make him a Boss char like in Turtles in Time.

That would be:

Intro/Taunt/win Sprites
Standing Sprites
Walking Sprites
Jumping and Rolling sprites
1 Get Hit Sprite
Attacking with the Claw Sprite
Attacking with the main Weapon Sprite
*lose and lying on the ground (Only if you don't want to use the Classic explosion/escape style)

If one of you or your both want to have more animations of him, maybe to have him as a unlockable character, than tell me and I can make some edits on the ohter sprites too.

What I can do:
Change the Colors of the sprites to make them resemble Turtles in Time Slash, and separate his Mask colors form his knee/elbow/wristband colors.
Separate buckle and belt colors from the Weapon and Shell Colors.
Removing the weapon on the left hand and add the claws.
*Removing the Shadows from all sprites (no important but so they will fit better with the other sprites.)

What I can Maybe do:
Do some Head Swaps and edit them to give them the Crazy look of slash
Add the Spikes on his kneebands and his Shell

What I can't/won't do:
Creating complete new sprites and adding his right hand Weapon and Claw.

I have some skills in editing but I realy can't create anything new, so if you need sprites that are not part of the original sprites, I sadly can't help with that.

About the Weapon, I simply don't know what version of his weapon would fit with the sprite style and your both games, You could go more into the comic style and use a small Kriss, or use hit Turtles in Time "ÜBER Kriss" that is big like a freaking Sword, or make it like the cartoon and give him one Machete for the right and another for the left hand.^^

One of you or your Both would still need to do the rest, adding some details etc.

Yea because of that I came of the Idea to use the Sega Sprites, they looked more like the Turtles from the Original Comics, always Angry and much more muscular compared to there SNES counterparts.
 
You can use Turtles In Time sprites with the Tournament Fighters Genesis ones. All you have to do is make the palletes and the light source the same.

This could be usefull too. It has been done by Melcore.

At one point I had collected a crap ton of TMNT Sprites during the Lavalit days; Sadly I threw away the CDs I backed that data on. I had stuff from just about every TMNT Game made up to the GBA games.
 
This Melcore sheet is cool, but the size is not fitting SNES sprites turtles.
Also there is a mix of big and small pixels that make it really weird.

IMO the best option would be using Genesis Turtles sprite and edit them to match Slash.
 
@Lichtbringer - I'd love to have him playable, but whatever you feel like making would be awesome.  I can maybe try and add his weapon or other things once you're done. ;)

Yeah this is just the ideas thread. ;)  Eventually I will start a WIP thread, but for now there is nothing much to show and I don't need help with other stuff like coding yet.

Ok I begin with the Colorseparation off all sprites now, but I have to know what are the required sprites for a Full Char in your Games, becaus most Beat em up's use less Sprites to animate there chars as VS Fighing games do, can you both make me a list of the Animations etc.?^^
 
the ones you listed were pretty close,

walk (run optional)
idle
attack(s)
jump / jump attack*
fall
pain
rise
intro (select char)

Anything extra anims is welcome, the current turtles have a few different moves.  But it doesn't matter if slash has less moves.  a basic combo would be good thou.


 
Maybe it's early to ask this but, what style and versions will you use for the levels? If you want, I can support with that.
 
Recoloration of the Sprites and finding the one I need for a complete Char is done, I will edit now all the Basic animations and attack but I have A Question.

I have two ideas for Specialattacks for Slash, the first one is realy simple, using his airrolling animation to make a "Blanka like" rolling attack like in Turtles in time.

My second idea is to give him something like a ground smash, I belief it would fit because Slash is more this kind of strong and brutal fighter, unlike the turtles with there Ninja skills.



That a the Sprites I would suggest for it, the attack could make AOE effect damage or/and dizzy enemys, what do you guys think?
 
@Lictbringer -  Yeah Slash should be more brutish and not really have ninja skills.  Cool idea for the ground smash, it would make a good escape move.  A Blanka style rolling attack would be cool for him too.

I'm not sure what you meant sorry.  But would love any help for levels as I'm mainly working on the sprites ;)
