If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for enemy characters to use or bases for characters... so far im including Shredder, Krang, Karai, and Hun. Also looking for stage ideas especially rooftop levels a lot of the comics have the turtles fighting the foot on rooftops so i would like to include that. Long story short any ideas or suggestions would be helpful especially levels thanks

You know, before you asked about base suggestions, you need to tell us sprite size and style you are using in your mod

There are many rooftop levels from games to be ripped but just as mentioned above, we need to know sprite size

im using the turtles sprites from Tournament fighters for SNES dimensions of Michelangelos idle sprite is 88 x 84. As far as bases go if a character was not included in tournament fighters and isn't a major character in the TMNT universe someone that maybe would be overlooked

Also i want the game to have more of a grittier feel than the cartoon series so closer to the original comics or the first film so stage ideas that have a darker feel sorry for being unclear before

I think it would be tough to find backgrounds already with 'darker feel' unless you are willing to edit them

Anyways, check The Shadow (SNES). It has rooftop level and dark alley level if you're interested

Sorry forgot to mention this earlier but I havent found a way to insert Rat King into the story yet but I do have his sprites. And thanks for the info on the shadow I will check it out and even if I have to edit levels its fine.

Sexy palette.
I like how it look like, with these colors.
What about Aska? even if she's not canon

Firstly I like your sprite edit, god job. Look forward to seeing more of this project.

For enemies you definitely need Foot Clan.

I have a tmnt side project started like this using those sprites, (I was just making smart pal for the turtles and making palettes later) the turtles are all red bandannas.  It's nearly 2 years old, it was more for a personal project.

I had a lot of problems thou trying to find stages that would suit the style I wanted.  I was also trying to find rooftop stages, there doesn't seem to be much I can find.

I didn't want to resort to stealing from other mods or mugen stages, or use stuff from well known games, but I resorted to mainly using final fight and SOR stuff because it seemed to work. Thou I'm using very faded and dark looking sprites compared to you.  I'm simply changing the colours, contrast and saturation of the stages to try and fit my sprites.  It's a bit trial and error thou.  I also was going to have a black and white mode (those out of the shadows guys copied me!) except for red bandannas (optional) and red blood.  So it's pretty easy for me to convert the stage palettes for black and white.

(actually just a select screen)

Also I had resize issues with enemy sprites.  I was going to resize everything small but ended up starting over and keeping the turtle sprites size unchanged and trying to resize each enemy instead.

I just work on this mod when I need a break or a change of pace, it's got a long way to go.  I'm still doing smart pals for the turtles and coding them slowly.  Sprite work relaxes me and was something to do purely for fun.  I only ever showed some shots to MatMan once.  Didn't really plan to show anyone else, but maybe fair I mention it so you don't think I'm copying you.  It would be my next project thou after doom etc.

Don't worry thou, I can tell we are making different mods.  My original concept was a very violent tmnt mod,  like TMNT meets Mortal Kombat, but I tamed it down a lot.  Now it's more of a remake of the old DOS game 'Manhattan Missions' but loosely based on the style of the original comic with a mix of archie series, cartoon and movie elements (like the addition of Krang).  Part of the project was ripping the midi's from the DOS game and making high quality WAV versions using MT-32 emulation.

Also I wanted to include the 'Mighty Mutant Animals' some way, but I was doing it by trying to sprite edit, something I'm not very good at.

Mondo Gecko concept (in my game he's a homeless skater)

Usagi concept (the samurai rabbit)

I'm sure people wouldn't like some of the sprites I've used, they don't all mix well.  Also I don't mind using my imagination a bit.  Like I have human versions of bebop and rocksteady that are just enemies from another game with new palettes.  Also I'm kinda mixing up the story to make it's own version of tmnt which people won't like.

But yeah the stages thing, I don't mind if you use the same stuff, I might not ever make my mod for release anyway.  I have other mods I concentrate on.

These are what I decided to use, because some were already in openbor mods (like final fight)  I borrowed them for testing, so I know they work.

- Final Fight series
- Streets of Rage series
- Sailor Moon series
- Crime Fighters (started ripping these myself in MAME)
- others I forget, will check and let you know, like random SNES games

I couldn't find good rips of many stages thou, even stuff that is in openbor already I can't find any good public rips for some of them.

Have you got any stages in game yet that you want to match the style of?
I have stuff saved I don't even know or remember the source of, but I could show/send you them.

Also I have sprites you could use if you like, thou I'm still working on them so they're not final.

Aska wont be in the game because i know nothing about her so i wouldn't know how to use her.bWWd deserves the sprite credit most of the turtles sprites are his work im working on palettes i thought about giving the turtles a black and white palette like u did to represent the original comics but decided against it.

Story wise the new comic by IDW is a big influence my krang is going to be based on his appearance there. I'm kind of mashing different things I like from different versions of the turtles. I want to eventually include Usagi Yojimbo & Casey Jones as bonus characters but the turtles come first.

I really like the black and white look you have going it looks like the original comics awesome work. Mondo Gecko I had that toy as a kid cool of you to include him.

As far as the sounds go i havent decided on what its going to sound like but i have some ideas. And don't worry I'm not gonna say anybody stole my idea or anything like that not that kind of guy I just want a cool TMNT beat em up game with a more realistic visual style.

I haven't figured out stages for sure yet I'm checking out the shadow now. Batman Returns, Sailor Moon, Denjin Makai, and Final Fight are the things I'm considering right now. The main problem i have is finding levels that make sense to go with the bosses I have in mind.

Beastie I really appreciate you offering to share your work I'll gladly do the same.

Stage Ideas:

1) StockGen Labs
2) Technodrome
3) Channel 6

I suggest somehow working in Raphael's love interest Mona Lisa into the game.

Hehehehehe I had the same idea using tournament sprites. I think everyone had the same idea lol

Yeah because it's a cool idea!.  Those sprites are cool, but the original game never really was.  The sprites turn up good with just a palette change.  This was something I was going to show you and Doom next by uploading to dropbox to see what you thought.  But we are too busy right now with doom mod and Avengers etc.  Mainly I need better palettes for stages and sprites, also i have some WIP sprites edits, was going to eventually post this on Atlas forums for suggestions with my sprite edits, palettes etc.

Ratking (TMNT4 palette)

I wanted to add Ratking as well.  I had an idea that he could even have a brief alliance with the turtles, because the mousers would obviously be a threat to Ratking and his rats.  They somehow join up to beat Baxter Stockman

I haven't figured out stages for sure yet I'm checking out the shadow now. Batman Returns, Sailor Moon, Denjin Makai, and Final Fight are the things I'm considering right now. The main problem i have is finding levels that make sense to go with the bosses I have in mind.

Yeah this is why I just wanted to use dark empty streets and rooftops.  I've spent hours going through background rips, but the best stuff that suits what I want is in the original BOR and Crime Busters mod.  Stuff like this I really need, stages near the water on the docks like this. (manhattan missions has a few stages set on the docks)

My other plan was finding as many city backgrounds as possible and using them in most stages.  (the iconic TMNT/NY look of dark buildings in every background)  I think it really helps build the tmnt style.  Stuff like the streets of rage city background is perfect.

(from final fight?)

I was also copying the IDW look a bit too, but I haven't actually read that series (looks good thou)

Glad you made these threads, almost did the same thing few months ago to ask for stage suggestions, but didn't want to say what mod I was making.

So to add to the request I think we need not just stages but any assets or parts of stages we can use from other games.

- Rooftop panels (can be used for panels in repeatable building stages, backgrounds would be just city skylines)

- Street stages (or parts of) - 80s/90s looking streets, graffitti, trash etc.

- City Backgrounds (like SOR or above example, dark style)

- New York stages (anything that could be used for new york settings)

- Sewers (any sewer type stages or assets.  Like flowing water, drainpipes, manhole covers etc.)

- Underground (underground type stages, caves, rocky ground layers etc.)

- Techno (technological/futuristic looking stages, like the TGRI building, Technodrome or an alien spaceship.)

- Oriental/Japanese style (oriental style building interiors, for Shredder's/Foot Clan base.)

- Dimension X - anything that could pass off as Dimension X

- Subway/Train tracks/tunnel stages (underground subway etc.)

Using color separations on these characters really allow great renderer.
IMO the original sprites of TMNT fighters are beautiful, but due to color limitation they are... limited.

this redesign work is very well done!

Yeah that's what i was trying to say.

While I did that palette for Rat King you could tell it was built to have this kind of palette, it's all there in the sprites, they just gave him a crap palette in the game.

I want to include a Stockgen level because storyline wise im going with April O'Neil the scientist over April O'Neil the reporter so that takes Channel Six out of the equation I'm not sure about the technodrome since in the IDW run it doesnt exist atleast not yet.

Yeah because it's a cool idea!.  Those sprites are cool, but the original game never really was.  The sprites turn up good with just a palette change.

My idea was to use Genesis Sprites, not SNES sprites.

Anyway, a friend of mine made a improved sheet of Ralph
