Balacera Brothers

Complete Balacera Brothers (run n' gun game) 1.0.5

No permission to buy ($10.00)
Project is completed.
So happy to see a game like this in 2020 ;D a love letter to the golden age of the konami run n gun games (I must have played sunset riders, wild west C.O.WBoys of Moo Mesa, Mystic Warriors countless times!Definitely got the look and color of the "TMNT2 Based Hardware"games, alongside some nicely done visual effects reminiscent of some seen in the "Konami XEXEX Hardware". Nice use of the OpenBOR engine.  I used to play those 3 games back to back, and i can't wait to add this to the playlist :) a worthy ode to the games i love.
Best wishes, i hope it's a success, i definitely wouldn't mind more of this in the future ;D

This game looks really nice. About story animations, in my opinion i would not bother paying someone at this point as it’s so hard to make money in the games industry. I would suggest just still frames to tell the story then if you make enough money on this project you could use it to pay a animator for a sequel or other game.

I agree with kingherb. This game looks really fun - classic Contra style Run n' Gun with a slightly different visual flair. Most players don't give a flip about story and just mash buttons through it anyway. The ones that do care won't mind still presentation as long as it's interesting. Keep it yours, even if you have to lower the production value a bit.

I have to agree, i think it's a more sensible solution for independent developers without major budgets.
Besides, it'd coincidentally add even more of a feeling of authenticity, if you look at sunset riders' intro, the animated scenes have at most 3 to 6 frames, tops. You can do a lot with 2-3 frames of a repeated action (talking, shooting), you do not even need to animate the whole picture if you choose the pose/viewing angle of the character and scene carefully, sometimes just the eyes/lips/arm or mouth, done with ingenuity it can be effective.
In the age of re-releases, remasters, DLCs, and what have you, you can always release a deluxe edition later, or even an upgrade for the owners of the game (or both). You got the gameplay down that's for sure, i think that's the key element, hands-down :D i also get a contra feel, with a double jump and what not. I'm hyped!

Thanks all for your opinion. In-game animations are going to be minimal and made by me, unless they don't turn out well, in which case I'll do away with animations altogether and just focus on gameplay for the time being (very likely).

1:50 : That's a pity players can reach the upper platform to take bonus weapons :/.

This diagonal floor is nicely done; there are various gameplay phase in your game and good boss patterns, good job ;)

Good catch! Actually you can reach the upper level as long as you don't destroy the barrels at 1:38

And the game is complete! I'm very happy with how it turned out :)

It's available here: https://gamejolt.com/games/balacera_brothers/454570

Of course I thanked the Chronocrash community in the credits!

I guess we can now move this thread to " completed mods"...

congratulations for the release, outstanding work, not just as a game but as pice of original art work, i am allways amazed when i see something like this, new and original, maded from the scratch out of sheer creativity. looking foward to your future projects.

congratulations can not believe how quick you released this.  If you used all original content you had the option to sell this game why did you not do that ?

I'm about to buy a copy now  ;D can't wait to play it, hopefully tonight when everyone is asleep  8)

Thanks everyone. I agree with the sentiment that it's neat to see more and more original content being made with OpenBOR.

I've been working like a madman the last 8 months - I originally planned for 5 to 6 months of development but as usual I ended up taking longer.
I don't understand your question. I am selling the game. Maybe I misunderstood?
