OpenBOR Palette Indexer is a user-friendly and specialized utility designed for game developers and modders working with the OpenBOR engine. It automates and simplifies one of the most tedious parts of 2D game development: generating, managing, and applying unified indexed palettes for character and object sprites.
With this tool, you can ensure that your character's colors remain consistent across all animation frames in just a few clicks.
Key Features
1. Advanced Palette Generation & Custom Transparency
- Batch Processing: Load a single image or an entire sprite pack at once. Easily select and delete any unwanted images directly from the built-in file list.
- Unified Palette Generation: Automatically analyze all loaded images to generate a single, synchronized color palette (up to 256 colors) to prevent color bleeding or shifting between animation frames.
- Smart Background Masking: By default, the program sets the standard OpenBOR transparent color magenta (255, 0, 255) as the first index. If your graphics use a different background color, simply use the BG Pipette tool to sample and set your custom background color instantly.
- Palette Export: Save your newly generated color scheme as a standard Adobe Color Table (.act) file for seamless use in Photoshop or other graphic editors.
2. Interactive Color Editing & Remapping
- Live Color Picker: Click anywhere on the sprite preview to instantly locate and highlight that specific color in the generated palette matrix.
- Color Replacement & Reset: Swap out individual colors to tweak your sprites on the fly. If you make a mistake or don't like the new color scheme, you can instantly reset the palette back to its original generated state.
- Batch Saving: Apply all color modifications to every loaded sprite simultaneously and save them all at once.
- Full Undo/Redo Support: Experiment safely with a step-by-step history buffer that lets you easily roll back or reapply any changes.
3. Comfortable Navigation & Workspace Control
- Flexible Zooming: Smoothly zoom in and out of your pixel art using either the dedicated interface buttons or your Mouse Scroll Wheel.
- Canvas Panning: Effortlessly navigate large images or close-ups by holding down the Right Mouse Button (RMB) to drag and pan across the workspace.
4. Customization & Localization
- Multilingual Interface: Work in your preferred language with full support for English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.
- UI Themes: Protect your eyes during late-night modding sessions by toggling between Light and Dark themes.
