Hi guys!

I'm sorry for creating a topic a few years ago about a mod I gave it up just after for some reason. So now I open a new thread for an another project. Actually I have had some potential mods through years and this one is maybe the most feasable for me as a first project. It's been near one year I have focused only on this one and put the others aside. This WIP will take years before being completed, I hope two. But I've already spent on it more than 200 hours since the beginning and I'd like to release a demo in one year. ;)

Anyway!
If I write this text today it's because it's the 25th anniversary of Megadrive's game Comix Zone and thus it's the right time to tell you I want to make a sequel thanks to OpenBor! This will be a beat'em up though.

Story:
This time Sketch Turner is working on an OB mod using sprites from bootleg 8-bit games and, you know... the last boss make him get into the WIP game. :/ And then Alissa Cyan is back home and take a gamepad to control Sketch in order to get him out of the screen by beating the last boss. If she fails, Sketch dies and the villain get out of the game to rule the world...

Although it will be different from Comix Zone, Mod X Zone (maybe not the definitive title) will keep the original spirit. Indeed Sketch and Alissa will talk to each other and this time the roles will reverse. Sketch, like a puppet, will just be able to give advises to Alissa because he knows his game where is now trapped. The player will choose between various routes and items (actually some hyper moves). Off course the comic aspect will remove but I'd like to exploit the fact the hero is in a video game and the characters are aware of it. And I want the player can't go to the end when playing for the first time. Good knowledges of the numerous enemies of the game will be required...

The size of the screen is particular: 368x207 (16/9 though). Other players than Sketch will be available. They'll be prototype characters of (prototype) games. Many things still be evolutive but I think I describe the core of the future game.

Very cool idea. I liked the Comix Zone stage in bWWd's Battle Toads and thought Sketch was a lot more fun than the toads themselves. Interesting to see what you do with this 16-bit Fighter!

I like this idea, kimono and I came up with a similar idea of a mod that creates itself to help beginner's, really curious to see how this develops, got any video of this in action?

Thanks guy, I'm really glad to read your good opinion about this project!

I've never done this kind of video. It's not priority but maybe in some months I or someone else will do it. I'm curious as well about your mod!

I have a question about Comix Zone. In the good ending, it's said that Comix Zone becomes the best selling comic-book ever, Alissa goes out of her world before becoming the head of U.S security and the rat Roadkill is donated 100 pounds of mozarella. But I wonder if the comic-book shows the initial story Sketch was drawning or his own story in this universe. I guess it's the first option to be right but I'd like to have your opinion about it to be sure. Thanks by advance. ;)

Hi! I'm uping this topic because it's been one year I haven't done it and I'd like to give some news. The roster will have at less Ryu Hayabusa (MD Ninja Gaiden), Aja (the woman from Fireteam Rogue), the Shadow (SNES game) and Max (SOR2). Among the secret chars there will be at less Axel (SOR2) and I'm proud of having finished his smartpal et his resized sprites. It was really time-consuming and I can now respect even more the ones who do this kind of work. I don't wanna complain but more generally this sort of project requires so much to learn and to work that I want to congratulate everyone who do it with all his heart and is able to share something.

I'm sorry, I don't have any demo to show because there are too many things to be polished before, IMO. But here is a capture of Axel. The second icon is about his super attack (the basic one) which is switchable with others. I'd like each char to have 7 different super attacks.

My health problem is lasting and it's been months I haven't worked on this project or really played a game. I prefer to make this project cancelled to keep this away from my mind as long as I don't feel able to go on properly. Trust me, it's a pain. :(
In the worst case, I'd like at less finish a polish demo or reduce a lot the game in order to send him to you one day.

Now I focus on other artistic priorities. I really want to make a comic, however slow to do and basic, because I miss a lot doing it. That said, I still don't know if I'll able to make it neither. I'll try and I'll see. Anyway I'd be glad to show what I can do whatever the media. ;)

I also can say I'll maybe help some modders in the future again. After all I still keep an eye on the community projects and I still want to be useful!

I wish good luck for your projects and I hope I'll tell you good news next year. 🤟

Bad news here. I really hope you'll get well, even if it's not to continue this project.

I feel connection with your situation for many reasons.
Whenever you want to talk about comics hints, suggestion to make your own comics, jsut message me.
As we know we exchange very well in french together.

Comics making can be a very long work.
As you know my own professional project of 120+ pages in color took me 10 years, but the good thing is every completed page is a success in your life!
Trust me ! :)

Big hug to you <3
Take care.
I expect to see you around here !

Thanks Ned, your message moved me!

I'll sure talk to you again about drawing when the time comes. I hope in December.

Of course my project isn't as ambitious as yours but yes I agree with you I'd be very glad to manage making pages. Two years ago I aimed too high and I had to stop after 6 incompleted pages. I wanted to make one page a week. What an error! Therefore I need to keep away from me any time pressure and know little by little what is my right rhythm.

And congratulations for your 120+ pages comic, your patience impresses me!

Thanks a lot buddy!
Initially, I thought it would take perhaps 4-5 years, but I had to stop many times because of my main job recuitement, IRL problems etc.
And I'm/I was a freaking perfectionnist.

I learned how to be less perfectionnist, to be more efficient -> still with very good result. Otherwise, perhaps just 70 pages would have been completed yet.
