It's been awhile.
I know we usually see most mods have defaulted toggling in select screen such as toggling left/right for selecting chars and up/down for selecting alternate palettes. It's just an idea having the toggling move in 8 directions for selecting chars as shown at 2:00-2:20 in AvP. Also for KOFXIII where you select alternate palettes/costumes after selecting characters at 0:12, 0:16, and 0:20. For Tekken Tag 2, you move left or right to select costumes after selecting char(s).

I understand there is no line-up in grids in OpenBOR comparing to Mugen to what it has. For example, in Mugen, you can make an 8 by 8 grid with a total of 64 slots for chars in your Mugen roster. Also, you can move probably 8 directions for selecting chars and press any attack buttons to select palettes (there's holding an Enter button for selecting extra palettes) in Mugen, while in OpenBOR you select chars with only left and right, along an optional palette selection with down and up.
