Canceled The Lab of Mr.Din

Project is halted prior to completion and will not receive further updates.

from a separate but still related build. Reason for this is because I'd like to revisit SoR1 for mobile phones. now it's likely the final build of this particular small project would be 1p only but at the time this was project neo. Axel and Adam were quite rough here, Abedede only had on frame that slid across the screen (lmao) and the jean jacket goons were still pretty early in this.

The graphics for this project are so impressive and consistent every time I see them, especially for original work. They look really professional.

Will we see some more sprites/frames of the other characters soon? I'm naturally interested in seeing how Java might play, lol.

Interesting that the game will only be 1 Player since SoR always allowed 2. This doesn't bother me much because I have no friends to play with anyway, lol, but I feel sorry for those who do and want to play a successor to SoR.

So I'm curious (based on this image) if you plan on having remakes of the original trilogy included in the main project? That would be really neat (kinda like how Marvel Infinity War has First Alliance 2 as an optional route). I can only imagine how much work that would be though :(

Really excited for this project. Every time you post a new screen or sprite it renews that excitement, lol :)

I'm quite certain I am my biggest critic, resulting in such haha, it gets to be frustrating at times. Thankfully I've been receiving help from a good friend of mine as far as making the animations smoother and less clunky, I'm not the best at animations heh heh.

The project is being done in phases so my focus at the moment is "Hawk" and his crew. I'm definitely looking forward to Java in the future though.

This only applies to the mobile remake of SoR1 for obvious reasons. Neo itself will be up to 3 players minimum.

A remake of SoR1 combining SoR1 and BKM is the only thing in the cards (At the moment) as far as remakes go. It's actually an easier project due to already having a 3rd of it's cast ready for the game (Axel, Garcia(s) and Donovan(s)) While this remake is a separate project it is an introduction to one of Project Neo's fighting systems (Simple) and an introduction of the revamped plot of the series. Essentially killing two birds with one (Axel) stone.

Really excited for this project. Every time you post a new screen or sprite it renews that excitement, lol :)
Appreciate it, I still have somethings to work on before making a notable presentation so these little tidbits are my way of keeping you guys in the know.

this is looking really awesome are you gonna include a few of the levels from the beta editions of streets of rage from 1 to 3

The progress is looking great, but are you really going to change the name of the project?
Well Project Neo is a working title, what the final title will be depends on a few things but it's not of huge importance at the moment.

Old Town is inspired by a few beta/discarded scenes from the series.

Nice!
Do you use multiple tileable panels or just one long panel?
one long panel and soon bg layers, I actually had more layers but I didn't like how the layers would bounce when enemies land.

Demo's closer to satisfactory status, onto the harder part (for me anyway) scripting in the grappling system.
So characters will have 3-4 play styles to choose from, these work like isms from alpha.
Simple Mode which you'll see a preview of today, is a mode based closely to SoR2. Specials don't take from meter but life instead, the button configuration is limited to 3 buttons and all functions work like in SoR2, there are also no upgrades to any moves here. However, universal things like running, rolling, throw escapes (pending), Screen clearing moves and alternate combo enders will be present here. Think of this as a refined SoR2 style for players that don't usually have interest in using extra functions.

Original Mode is closer to SoR3/SoRR, 6 button config, upgraded blitz attacks, meter usage for specials and more functions. charge attack and attackboth will have new moves assigned, upgraded blitz attacks can be swapped between by pressing x twice allowing to you choose what blitz attack you want on the fly. Tailored for SoR veterans.

Refined Mode Is a new play style entirely. 6 button configuration, more upgrades for moves and combos are further expanded. Meter management is important here as there are new moves and features that use some meter. Critical attack expands combos further than just the ender this time around and is also used for the upgraded blitz attacks instead of replacing the standard blitz, grapple moves are expanded as well depending on the character.

- One of these new features is the defensive trait, this is an expansion of the X input buffer system giving you the ability to turn the fight around. For Axel pressing X button will give you a quick side step which can cancel into some other things such as a back dash by pressing back twice, a quick dash up and down the z axis with up x2 or down x2 or countering with a shoulder rush by press forward twice. There are other counter attacks for you to explore and find as well, keep in mind that these use a small amount of meter and shouldn't be abused.

one last mode being decided on
Classic Mode is another style being thought on, it'll play like SoR1 replacing special moves with the exclusive cop call move, outside of this it'll play like Simple Mode. A bit of a challenge style for anyone looking for it. This may be exclusive to classic version of characters, we'll see.

A few gifs showing off Axel in Simple Mode. Donny is the victim of the day.

Does anyone know a better mp4 to gif converter program?

Conversion to gif interests me as well.

I'm glad to see thins feature implemented in the game.
It will allows a lot of variety + the number of characters.

Aah, do you have plans for adding new moves such as Running Special and Grab Special? Denjin Makai series have those two (not all characters have the latter though)

it's possible some characters will get running specials. depends on the character, I tried out running specials with Hawk so far I didn't like how it stood out with the rest of his moves. This isn't the only extension though, some characters may have aerial specials, grab specials, counter based specials etc. Hawk is a pick up and play brawler type so he may be a bit bare bones in comparison to what I have coming up.

there will be some references here and there to point out, nothing that sticks out like a sore thumb however.
