Canceled The Burning Fox! Game

Project is halted prior to completion and will not receive further updates.
The game is finished! I tried uploading to Chrono Crash on December 25th before I left town, but I'm not sure what happened? I just re uploaded now, so I think it's awaiting administrative approval. It'll be on Chrono Crash soon!  ;)

But for those who want to dig in right now, I do have an alternate link up. I also have a Lite Version up for PSP & Android Phone users.

Congrats on releasing it! I'll be dloading the lite version to test it out. I'll give some comments once I got the play through. Have you tested the lite on a PSP yourself? Just saying.

Okay for the review, when you started the game, it feels like a good indie game, the title screen was decent enough and really captures your material well. I get into the custom title screen, it's not that bad at all as well, but I had major spikes of lag over the select screen on the phone, not much on the PC. When I get into the game, I noticed it's really laggy and such, but that's just the phone, so it's not a problem there.

Gameplay-wise, it's actually nice, although as nsw25 said, you need to decompress the player somehow. Give him enemies to spar that could not be too difficult to mash onto. I played the game on the phone, so the lag made the situation worse. I saw that the player would be stuck onto hit after hit of two guys, without even escaping, which is good if you're doing attacks that fly the player off, but not when they're stationary and on the ground. That's fixable though, it's not something to worry. The white effect seemed to be above the level on the first initial ones, you will need to use resolution independence for this one.

But I got to hand it to you on your first attempt it was overall satisfying and recommended as it is. Problems might be here and there, but nothing too much to break gameplay. Those are the things I got so far, I hope you have something to get from my opinions.

Pretty cool game.

I like the style, very nice.  Lots of nice touches, the intro, the voice work (lol, kinda campy but I love it), I like that you kept the mod small. Nice moves,  Main character is pretty cool.

I don't like the Lifebar, mp bar, it looks nice but it isn't very functional.  I prefer the traditional SOR or FF style.  The sprites are cool but they have a MS Paint feel to them, I'm pretty sure your last mod was almost kinda perfect in this regard why the change?

I feel you need a dodge (up+down). Too many mobs for a game without a dodge.  I don't like the taunt,  and some specials are to similar to normal commands, so I ending up using MP when I didn't even mean to?

I made it to the snow stage but then the teleporting enemies. (teleporting and mobs, bad mix) they also burst into a column of light while I'm fighting them, it does major damage to my character (not very fair).

Thanks a lot Skull Kingz.  A pretty cool mod but a bit rough around the edges, as a fellow artist, this mod kinda inspires me to work on a mod with my own sprites as well. Thanks again.

i had a quick play, seems like a lot of work went into this. Theres a lot of neat things.

its a shame you didn't listen about altering the graphical style slightly to include more shading on clothing. Zier and the ninja enemies all blend into the background and when theres a lot on screen its just a mess. If you still stand your ground on the matter then at least change the buildings in the background so that the blacks aren't same/similar to what player and enemies use) there is too much of the same black colour used on everything. And as everything has the globby MS paint look it really is a strain on the eyes at times.

speaking of, maybe have first level with less ninjas, so players can learn the basics, have a semi tutorial stage (especially considering there is a lot of unique concepts here)

dont give up. Take the advice and make this game even better :) it has alot of potential

I wanted to change the sprite style, but I just stuck with what I knew already. It's not always appealing to everyone, so I know I have some improving to do. On another note also, I've been away from sprite editing for some time, so I'm just trying to get my "feel" back. I'll take your advice my friend and attempt to make my future games even better.  Thanks for the feedback.  8)

I test the lite version on both the PSP, Android Phone & Tablet.

Thank you for taking the time out to test it. I'll admit I feel a little rough around the edges due to the fact that I've been away from the modding scene so long. Now that you guys mention it, I should have threw a tutorial level in there to get players started. A lot of the things you mentioned are fixable, so for the next mod I make, I will definitely remember to review you and everyone else's opinions. Thanks!

I didn't change the style of my sprites in comparison to my last mod, I could just be rusty, it's been a while since I've done some sprite editing. I've been animating for a few years. lol, but things like the lifebar/mp bar and the dodge move and stuff like that could all be improved if I ever decided to do another Burning Fox game. Again, I might be a little rough around the edges since I've been back, but I'll improve as time goes on.

Overall, I hope you all enjoyed it. I'm not sure why it's not uploaded to this site yet.

Ok, so I like the game but it's limitations make it waaaay to difficult to play. As stated earlier, dodge rolls would be a great help here. Also, as competitive as the enemies are, Zier isn't as nearly as flexible as he should be. Back Attacks would be wonderful in this game as well as health replenishes. I wasnt able to defeat his dad because i had got killed waaaay too many times before i fought him but in all, I like the concept but I think a revision or upgrade should be done to this game to complete it. It kinda still feels unfinished but Im sure with all of the input from the Bor fam, you'd know how to put the finishing touches on this game. I really like the flow and structure of the game but I want to see it "complete." I personally didnt have much of an issue with the graphic style but the gameply could use a deeper combo mix....maybe in switching styles in mid combo or something of the sort to mix it up from the regular combo cancels. In all, great game. I like what I was able to play of it. I just got off of work so when I saw it, I just wanted to give it a test run for the moment anyway. I'll give it a full run in the coming few days, still working on getting my PC back up to speed but great job again, Im impressed

I understand I have a few hits and misses here and there. This was my first real attempt at a game in loooong while. Maybe somewhere down the line I'll do a updated version. It wouldn't hurt to go back and update it a little bit here and there. Everything besides the graphics that everyone is requesting isn't hard to add. Things like more combos, style cancels, a dodge roll, back attacks, health replenishes, and even a tutorial could be added. But the real question is, even after I add those things, will it be a pretty solid decent game? Just curious?

Of course it would. It's not a bad game by any means, just "missing" in a few areas. I have some ideas that could help it but I wanna finish the game 1st so I don't pre-critic the project.

It will still be, just remember to avoid what most people would do, putting things without thinking over why you should put these things. There will be people opposing your ideas and you could follow them if you wish, but if you feel that it's not part of your vision for the character and game, just trust your instincts.

Also remember the mechanics of a game, it's designed to be fun. Just make it fun for yourself first, then it would follow naturally for others. ;)

Hehe, thanks man. I got that after reading a lot of game design books, especially Scott Rogers' Level Up book. He gives insight on game design and how to make them fun and challenging to players. I used to frequent his blog too before and I just got back to it now.

Yes, include the Simpsons mod works perfect with your build. But this mod can't open.
The pak name shows incorrect the name:
ORe_Burning_Fox

Seems OpenBor not recognized.

Firstly, did you use the lite version instead of the main version? Second, I got the link in my modified android topic that is from the latest OpenBOR. Test it and if persists, post over my topic there. Link for the thread is in my sig.

Thanks!
I download this version now:
New build - OpenBOR 3.0 4099 APK 1.3.2

And the same again, not work.

Have you try the mod with this build?

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17441591/OpenBoR/OpenBOR-debug-4082-1.1.2.apk

This is the version that I created the game with. I'm not 100% sure if it'll work for you but it works on every Android Phone/Tablet that I tested.
;)

Well... i try with this build and nothing change.
Still shows the message "No preview available".
I try with both version of the mod, full and lite.
I don't have problems with any mod, so i think something is missing.

After getting the hang of the game mechanics and learning the other moves, Im even more impressed. I've finished the game and beat the 1 credit mission,
; great ideas in this game and Im looking forward to that secret ;D
