Greetings -
since i am kind of stuck in NS for the foreseeable future, i am wondering if i can apply most of the things i have learned from it to whiteDragon's module.

right of the bat i believe i can handle the conversion to wide-screen for the most part, but one thing that i would like to do is add 2 more players to the game.

so it would be the 4 turtles plus Jennica/Venus & kasey Jones.

the only question, Damon Caskey -- for 6 players  would i have to wait for the next iteration of the engine or would it be possible to do with the current engine?

Another thing i would like to do have the game feature different styles of soundtracks depending on which turtle is leading.

example (in chronological order ): Leonardo gets OG arcades sounfonts
                                                    Michael Angelo gets Snes
                                                    Raphael gets Megadrive
                                                    Donatello gets CPS2 Soundfont
                                                    Jennica/Venus gets SHARP X68000  MIDI SC-55
                                                    Kasey gets "normal"/metal music

now , on the CPS2 sounfont, - i would actually prefer to stick to Sound chip/midi devices that Konami actually used/worked with.

Posting this, to give you thanks of my own uwu* for TMNT:SS was incrdibly promising, and if someone can pick it back up...well, my happyness level would go through the roof.
Good idea on adding 'Jennika' and 'Venus De Milo' aswell...
I wish you the best of luck, this project had such potential--if you or anybody that can help could develop it further, it's be a fantasy come true.

Nickokapo thanks,  i will try to communicate with mersox to se if he can give me any pointers & additional ideas.

I like rescua-palooza , but i really feel that we still never got complete home-versions of the 2 arcade games, its silly we got SNES & Genesis ports, but it always sucked that they were only 2 players.

Personally, rescue Palooza is like my wish , but it was made with a monkey paw...  it is great, its fun, but i just can't get over the NES style.
I will not try to reproduce it (it may be impossible), but at some point this project will probably turn into some kind of pentalogy/hexalogy anthology of sorts.
Hell, by combining the 5 game's (the 3 NES, genesis, SNES, Arcades) narrative in some way, there could be away to incorporate Batman & the Ghostbusters.

thus a big loooooong game with just about 15 characters tops.

the first goal is to top the 16 bit style arcade & home versions with wide screen & six player support

There aren't plans for that. There were a modification to allow 8 players support but it had issues with many changes with the recent controls improvement and it was dropped.

Honestly I am against this change, because it's not just allowing more players - this impacts a lot of things on the engine internally and can increase the workload for the devs to maintain this engine.

So if this ever get to the point of being voted among the devs, my vote is no, right of the bat.
 
Confirmed about player limit. One thing the engine can't do is support more players than it supports.

The max is 4 simultaneous players and there are no plans to change that.

The engine is more than capable of everything else mentioned here. There's just not enough justification for the dev team to support more than 4 players.

Additional characters don't even need 6 players, as innumerable projects have demonstrated here. Both Venus and Jennika could work well in this project. Anyways, what even happened to White Dragon, anyways? Maybe try to get into contact with him? If Batman and the Ghostbusters are worked in, I see no reason not to include Sonic and/or the Power Rangers as players as well.

White Dragon was removed from the forum. The reasons are several fold and already disclosed at length.

Unfortunately he continues some of the behaviors that caused his ban to this day.

I could also see the Game Boy and GBA/DS games being added to the mix, in addition to my suggestions with Sonic (yes, an official crossover happened once) and the Power Rangers. More actual TMNT characters (playable and adversarial alike) should be priority before crossover stuff, though. Possibly even later console releases if someone’s willing to put in the effort for custom sprites based on those games, or the DOS Manhattan Missions? The combo system could also see a refresh as well, even if it were great for its day.

15 characters sound great, my suggestions would be the 4 turtles, obviously, you have announced jennika and venus, so that's another 2, Ninjara, Usagi Yojimbo, Mondo Gecko, Mona Lisa, Splinter, Marshall Moo Montana, "Catwoman from channel six" version of April O'Neil, Alopex...if i can think of another i'll edit the post^^, right now i am out of ideas

It remembers of the improved remakes of old pc licensed games with smoother gameplay that merso-x does, like "Thundercats: Eye Of Thundera", "He-Man & the Masters of the Universe: The Power of the Ilearth Stone", or in the case of TMNT, "Fall of the foot clan DX": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMkuSEHnYpk

I prefer he tackled this project since it being a sidescroller, or if oldyz really wants to add the "manhattan missions" sidescrolling game, that'd be fine, i would support it, but maybe as a standalone game sepparate from "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shell Shocked Wide Screen" project ^^' just my 2 cents, hehe.

I love this idea, imagine a single game built from all the content in the NES, Arcade, SNES, Genesis (including exclusive levels from hyperstone heist and special levels to the SNES turtles in time, as well as the new levels from the TMNT port of the first arcade game on the nes, the one called TMNT 2: The Arcade Game...just imagine that...it'd'd be the ultimate TMNT arcade experience, even surpassing it...very promising, i wish you so much luck with this!)
PS..well, as for the batman universe, i guess my pick for the 15th character would be Batman Return's version of catwoman then :P
 
Nick, Casey Jones was already mentioned, and the 2012 series shows April doesn’t have to be a mutant to be playable; she has psionic moves. Wingnut/Screwloose could be cool, and as for guests, I feel like one Ghostbuster and Power Ranger each might be enough. I also mentioned that Sonic could be pretty cool in the game (The Fight For the Fox Box, remember?), and maybe Panda Khan?

the first thing is to get the wide-screen conversion, from there it can morph into something bigger..

the good thing is that making the engine 6 or 8 players is not impossible, but understandably it will result on a game that will not be future-proof & unsupported officially.

Personally, i think that 6 or 8 to 10 player simultaneous is a feature that works best if the engine ever gets a net-play capable version, and that can only happen if there were more people helping develop the engine.

realistically getting other 5 people to play with you is a rarity these days, hell , even 4 players coop is getting pretty rare.

but when that happens, seeing a game where you see 5 turtles & 3 members of the bat-family duking it out against hordes of enemies, i think that is worth the effort, let's cross our fingers that i can find a way to succeed...
 
Streets of Rage 2X’s AI Allies menu would work well to fill in the gaps, but you could probably take more cues from Sonic Adventure Revolution (it allows you to summon more than one partner). I agree to wait for true net play to occur to allow for this, but AI partners can fill the gap very well.

You know what, a partner/switch system not only could fill in the gap in the meantime, it can also work as a mechanic in the game
(basically it would be like this: player 2 can choose michael angelo & nightwing, & during game-play can switch between the 2 - sort of like Kirby superstar's system) Ai  controls the other & it would also add an element of difficulty , because that means that players also have to defend and help the AIs for better results, Just like ghostbusters the video-game, some levels will require partners to be alive

i forgot to mention Sonic -
I think Sonic could fit in during a "long" branching of the turtles in time "arc" - as a future where humans are extinct or nearly extinct & mutants & evolved animals are dominant, in this way elements of the Archie comic's war can be used.

Altho by watching videos alone Sonic seems hard to fit into the Beat-them-up genre, there can always be a plot excuse for the lack of speed & absense of the "Sonic game level design tropes".

good idea , but it would make the game even bigger by at least 5 levels (hehe , its bad enough that i want to insert a whole other game in there as an optional easter egg already)

I am now hesitant, i want to read that crossover comic (turtles sonic), but i don't want "contamination of ideas" from it - its the same reason i don't read Evil dead/ash comics, because whatever i want to do with Ash in NS  later on, i want to base it on weird angles of my own
 
The crossover I mentioned was a TV special, not a comic, and I like that you’ll be using Archie elements for Sonic if he gets in. That’s awesome to me.

Ah, i see..i care more for mutant animal characters thah human ones, but was already running out of ideas, and casey seemed like a no-brainer, off the top of my head. Also, i know she can hold her own, i like the 90's catwoman april o'neil's design, is all...plus it'd be a novelty since 2012 april, 2003 april and 1987 april have already been featured as playable characters, but never catwoman april:

I had no idea about the fox box thing up until now o.0 i found it...odd-it seems like the clips have no relation at all to one another and were spliced together as something a youtuber would do for a fan project. There is no new animation produced for the characters to actually interact with one another. Certainly a curiosity tho!
Sonic...well...i'm just not a fan of TMNT:SS becoming a multiverse project, so that's the only reason why, (i hope it is not taken negatively, and far be it from disencouraging creativity, it is *your* project and you, and only you, have, and should, get the final say)...well, it's a bit of a stretch, but i guess they were both featured in their respective archie comics series, so depending on which era of the Archie sonic timeline, it could kinda work as a bonus sidestory / gamemode maybe?Or keep the game mostly TMNT centric, and have sonic, a ghostbuster, or a power ranger as a guest character (Like bWWd's games for example: On his he-man game, you can choose Lion-O, or in his Upcoming TMNT game, you can choose the 70's cartoon / "superfriends" Batman & the Penguin).
I am just not always a fan of "everything versus the world" kind of games you may see on MUGEN, depending on the project, but it is really not my place or intention to say ^^, just random opinion speaking from the peanut gallery. I just care much about TMNT, but this forum historically has been a constructive enviroment, and i don't ever want to disrupt that.
And i just know the project will turn out awesome anyway, with the ambition and such a high aim standards, how couldn't it?It's the type of project that eventually keeps pushing the envelope of the OpenBOR engine, if you think about it.

Anyhow, sorry again ^^, i digress..

The multiplayer idea would be amazing, i only really ever got to play a 4 online multiplayer session of TMNT The Arcade game through a service called "Kaillera", and that was more than a decade ago, but, it wouldn't be entirely impossible i don't think!Just this year, i was able to play the "INN Revival" with other people ('Imagination Network' revival project, a fanmade effort to bring back "The Sierra Network" from the 90s)
Because, an 'event' was announced beforehand, and a date and time was set for people to join, if we could do this and advertise it across chronocrash, thetechnodrome, facebook, and all other places related and interested in this, i am sure it can be done :D

I for one have such an expectation for this, that when it happens, you can definitely count me in ^^
