Sor 2x "neon" feature

Hello. Look at 2:31:10 in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10WmVHaDcBQ

The sprite of the girl on the window could be using the "neon" feature ?

because i looked in the folder that contain the sprite of the girl and its only one sprite. but in the video , the sprite colors are cycling into others.

How can i use the "neon" feature? (if possible, a way without using scripts)

Hi pepodmc, I made some research in this level: it seems that this neon effect is used in the panel like this:
Code:
panel data/bgs/bateb/layer1.gif	data/bgs/bateb/back.gif

This is how the neon effect works:
panel {norm} {neon} {scrn}

{norm}, {neon}, and {scrn} are paths which point to the normal, neon, and screen graphics for a panel. {neon} and {scrn} are optional fields. If you aren't using them, put the word 'none' in their place.
Neon mode panel layers use 'pallete cycling': certain colors slowy change to different colors. To be more specific, colors 128 through 135 in the pallete will be cycled by two steps three times each second

I tried this but its not working (the girl appears but without any color cycling)

Perhaps in the last version of the openbor engine, the way to make the neon feature work is different?

pepodmc,

No, it's the same. But neon is a very old feature and you have to work within the old limitations to use it. Mainly, the neon panel must be using the same palette as background.

pepodmc: The neon feature works. You just need to have the same palette for your background image and your neon panel.

(slowy = slowly if anyone can correct this ;) ).

Damon Caskey: Sorry, I replied at the same time.

Proof of working in the latest versions:

Here are your neon and your background:

YXWmXKw.gif

You can have any other background that has the same palette than the background; you can use PalApply for this and use as palette your neon image.
One last thing, make sure that your neon image has the same size than your panel to avoid some floor problems ;).

Im sure that the panel and the background are using the same pallete. Thats the reason why i dont know what is wrong:

Its work in progress, because the nightclub atlas building of Sorr custom route didnt fit with the stage style, so im modifyng it until it fits XD

These are the sprites, you will be able to check that the two of them use the same pallete:

And this is the stage.txt

Ok, I see where is your problem, your palette is incorrect for neon use:
colors 128 through 135 in the pallete will be cycled by two steps three times each second

Would you mind to make a try with this palette swap if it works?

pepodmc: I tested and it works with this neon but you may want to change the colors 128 to 135 here:

776mo of webm, is it a little too much?

I only have to download and use this neon or i have to do something more? because still its not working.

I have to change color 128 to 135 to make this neon work?

The noen feature works in the mod; I send you your edited mod by mp. It would be better too if you choose another intro than the SORR one, but it 's just my opinion ;).

Its the intro of the sor 2 Route, but do you think it looks bad?

I used it because Its more animated than the original, and in the final part that says "Streets of Rage Remake" i put the last part of the original one with MR.X above.

This is good for learning purpose, but bad because you only copy the SORR content without bringing something new or created by yourself.
If you want to learn how to make original intros or graphics, I can accompany you to reach successfully this step.

Yeah, this was for learning the basics :)
But get what you are saying , some time ago, Damon Caskey told me something simmilar.

The thing is that im bad at drawing in general XD, and without that skill its nearly impossible to create new content in a retro game.

Plus, i think that first would be better to learn about scripts but i dont know which would be a good starting point to learn about scripts to start from there.

I dont plan to work in any other openbor game that isnt Sor 2x or a mod of it, so perhaps that make things a little easier i hope.

pepodmc: I prefer a pixelated intro for a 16-bit style game. I wasn't born with drawing skills, it's just an everyday's training to try to reach a decent result.
It's a good point if you try to script, maybye this Damon Caskey tutorial can be a good start? :
