.pak game files to Dreamcast cd conversion

Hi Guys,

Iam new to this, can anyone help me out on how to convert .pak game files to be burnt and played on the dream. What software and files are needed to get this to work. I tried using bootdreams to create a ip and bin file. But the games just load the intro and never the actual game itself.. what am I doing wrong. Do a need sw and special software, any help will be appreciated. At the moment I'm playing these openbor pak games via launchbox on my pc..would really be greatful if I can get them to work on my dreamcast.

Welcome to the community @Manps. Unfortunately, I don't have good news for you.

There hasn't been an official Dreamcast port for roughly ten years. De-facto support ended long before that. There is a port out there a third party works on, but they are not affiliated with the development team here in any way.

Point being, there's no such thing as a 1:1 .pak to Dreamcast conversation - and there never was, even back in the day. The module will have to undergo some serious modifications, and if it's one of the more ambitious OpenBOR projects, a *lot* of cutbacks to get it working.

That's all I can really tell you, because I don't have any specific technical expertise concerning Dreamcast burning. I believe you are on the right track with Bootdreams, but again, you won't get anywhere just trying to burn a pak as is. It will need a lot of tweaking, and many creators are not amenable to that. The best thing to do is take them on an individual basis. Find the thread, or let us know which games you are trying to play, and we can direct you to the discussion area to reach its creator.
