I want to get on making a OpenBOR game, but there are lots of tutorials that could fill up the procedures enough, but isn't there a tutorial that applies to starter users?

Plenty, but they are a bit out of date and will set you down the wrong path. By that I mean, using techniques that are more difficult, confusing and discouraging. What is it you are having trouble with?

I don't know how to start, like by setting the game settings and doing the first steps.

Welcome!
I'm not the best person to give advice about how to code, how to start but.
I started coding by tweaking and testing (almost) all the settings listed in the manual.
And by using an existing game with simple system.
Finally I edited the game so much it became my actual project since 99% of is new material and code.

Hm, do you know some base project to start off?

You can start with a blank mod which you can get here:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/mu09krvqsbtv14d/BlankMods.rar

It contains two blank mod, one for regular mod and the other for 2D mod
Actually, none of them are fully blank IOW both have some files to start. You can use these files to learn and edit :)

How do you insert them in OpenBOR? They aren't .pak files but RAR files, and i think i have to place the files in the directory folders of my OpenBOR directory? Well, how do i install them?

I think that Openborstats has a built-in tool for making the pak files itself.
Though, it's recommended that you use the delphi virus remover tool first, because there's a false positive - sometimes I couldn't even add to exceptions before my antivirus wiped the .exe file out!

Oh, ok. and do you know a tutorial on the list for essential starters?

Unrar both rars then unrar the blank.rar to a folder say Mod
Unrar blank2D.rar then put paks folder to that Mod folder
Then put openbor.exe in that folder. Run openbor and you have a basic mod which plays fine :)

As posted above, you can modify the contents inside data folder

I got only to get the Blank one to work (which had the Darkstalkers example), not the Blank2D (which might be the one with castlevania characters) one, which crashes upon pushing any key.

I used the neo edit pack for a start, because the blank mod pack started to give me the "invalid animation name" error when I was editing one of the characters for my mod.

Where do you get that? Infact when i was running the 2D base project (the castlevania one), it crashes upon pushing any key. It might be not a invalid animation problem, or was it?

Opening Blank (not Blank2D):

Opening (the actual) Blank2D:

It crashes when i push a key.

I don't know how this happened, but once I set the color mode to 32 bit, and deleted the global palette file from neo edit pack, the problem was gone.

I don't like using global palettes, it created so much headaches when I was trying to put a character in a mod I liked.

Remember when I said the old tutorials were bad news? That's why. They assume use of a global palette, which you should never, ever be doing. OpenBOR only defaults to a global palette mode for backward compatibility with old modules.

Hmmm.... for some reason it doesn't work with newer build. Alright, I'll check what's wrong and will solve it

OTOH I'm glad you can run Blank mod :)

It might be the global palette that might not be compatible with the old modules using it according to above posts.
(Unrelated note: I just changed my display name from now on, i'm Dynamicill, still.)

Hey, you could start modding using Blank mod

Unless, you wanted to make 2D mods in the first place...

[couple hours later]

Okay, I've fixed & updated both Blank mods. Here's the link:

https://www.mediafire.com/?n8bdd8qrvnbxud3

Blank2D has script to call familiar by pressing Attack3 button. Press Attack3 button again to remove the familiar. Familiar attacks if you attack ;)
