Hi! I'm Smedis2. I'm a massive nerd and like to play/modify/create video games. I've had experience with game development tools like Construct 2, Multimedia Fusion 2 and Game Maker, ZDoom, as well as fiddling around with M.U.G.E.N. in various ways. (I actually made a few characters, but they're pretty bad). I've always wanted to give OpenBOR a shot, seeing as I enjoy old-school beat 'em ups and I wish to make something of my own within the engine. I've been frequently impressed by what OpenBOR has been able to pull off, and I'd love to give it a shot myself.

Looking through what I've read on development in this engine, I can grasp a decent amount of the concepts used in this, but the issue I have is...

Where do I start?

Read that I posted in this page: http://www.chronocrash.com/forum/index.php?topic=2757.msg37414;topicseen#new

Welcome Smeddy! :)

To start, you can download Beats of Rage and modify its content. It's simple start but at least you can learn some basics

Welcome!
Yes you can start by editing BOR.
I recommand you to play with player entity values (life, speed, jump...)
(trying to swap sounds)
Create alternate moves with existing sprites...
Then you can create a simple character by swapping sprites. and combining previous actions.
Later you can use some simple scripts to give better gaming experience.
There is a lot of them in the appropriate forum area.

Good luck with learning, we're all still learning every day.
