General Beat Em Ups thread.

If any of you have a reliable way of emulating or otherwise playing PSP games, Ikkitousen Xross Impact is a absolute hidden gem:

If you can look past the "pervy anime visual novel" aspect of it, you'll find a genuinely fun and fast paced beat em up. There's tons of characters with varied movesets, you can play as two at a time and swap between them, and each character has a fair share of super moves. Too bad it wasn't made for consoles--the fact that it's a handheld title means you can't play it co-op unless you have a way of running two separate copies.

Hi beat'em up fighters,

Shadow Gangs is released yesterday  10th of April on Steam:
The first time I see this game, I thought it was a remake of Ninja Combat arcade 1990:

Graphics do resemble Ninja Combat, but otherwise this is a near pixel per pixel retrace of arcade Shinobi. Basic mechanics, player animations, enemies, boss patterns, ninja magic attacks, it's all there. Even when he switches forms it's just Shinobi's power up with a new coat of paint.

Not that I'm complaining at all. The original Shinobi is one of the greatest arcade games ever made. It's been begging for a proper remake for some time.

kimono I also noticed the resemblance to Shinobi even the odd way he holds his gun.

wow top hat gaming covering OpenBOR that is amazing.  I thought streets of rage z was made by volcanic but this looks like a hack of his original.

Indeed it looks like Shinobi. A lot.

About the coverage of OpenBOR, too bad it's a hacked game. Most of times people cover the worst games done in OpenBOR, with fee great exception like the He Man game.

Can you spot the references here? Fatal Fury 2 + last stage of Garou?

Yep. And he fights exactly like Ken-Oh (first Shinobi boss). Like we both said, this is pretty much a Shinobi Remake. Too bad they kept the one bad thing about Shinobi - the out of place gun and same awkward pose with it. Should have taken inspiration from later games where the shurikens gain a fire or glow effect. Or even replace them with a bow.

On the other hand, by adding that transformation effect they did fix the other power up oddity Shinobi had. I always found it hilarious how Joe always has a sword, but fights bare handed until getting a power up. What happened, does the power-up remind him it's there? :P
