Complete BDD: The Revenge (v.8)

Project is completed.
You know, I have a gut-feeling that people will actually struggle when they are at 'Mission 3: Spaces of Evil'. So here are a few hints and tips to, hopefully, survive that mission.

- Shoot everything you see on sight, except the spiked barriers (they cannot be destroyed). So shoot the rocks, enemy spaceships and the missiles that come towards you. They will rack up your points so you'll earn a 1up faster (the missiles from the boss himself cannot be destroyed during the fight).

- Try to keep shooting all the time. Some things come flying towards you FAST!

- Some enemies will leave behind a health power-up. Don't pick them up if you don't need them yet! They won't disappear, so you can save them for later on during the mission.

- Try to stay in the middle-left of the screen. This way, you may have more reaction-time to avoid the spiked barriers. You never know where the hole in the spiked barrier is. Sometimes it's at the top of the barrier...but it can also be at the very bottom of the barrier. So when you stay in the middle-left of the screen, you'll have more time to get to the top or bottom of the screen. And when the hole appears in the middle of the barrier, then you're pretty much already there.

- When fighting the boss, KEEP MOVING while shooting! And when you reach his second phase, make sure that he is in front of you and then move down the screen while shooting him. This way, you can avoid his missiles. Remember, you cannot destroy his missiles. When you've reached the bottom of the screen, then go up the screen while shooting him and avoiding his missiles. And then you move down again. You get the idea.

I myself use these tactics and I may die once or twice during the mission (but that's probably also because I tested the mission so many times :P). So yeah, you'll get better at it, eventually ;)

I wait for a remake of ths game, thank you!!
This game is not a remake of the original game from 1993 if that is what you meant to say. This game is designed to be a sequel to the original game.

there is style clash, battletoad games sprites are high contrast whilst double dragon sprites look murky in comparison (suggest you up DD contrast) also theres a enemy with biuuig body and rat head and sprite clash of contrast is really evident here.
I always thought the sprites matched quite good to be honest. But if I look very closely, I do know what you're talking about. How do I up contrast on DD sprites?

switching up the groups etc with delays etc etc.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.

I know you can do more with this so good luck !
I honestly gave it all I got actually with this update. But if people say that I can do better, I guess I could give it a shot.

Also, you mentioned that the levels seem a bit bland. What do you suggest I add to the stages? How do I make them more "alive"?

to tweak brightness and contrast you can do batch edits in photoshop, I did a quick test on DD sprites and works well.
I don't have Photoshop. You did a quick test on the DD sprites. Could you show me what they look like after you tweaked the brightness and contrast?

regarding levels I mean split up the levels to have backgrounds and foregrounds and more obstacles and objects (light posts with light emiting, stop signs that change colour, stuff like that where it gives levels more movement and character)
There are only two levels that actually have foregrounds. I admit that's not a lot, so I guess I could take a look at some of the stages and see what I can do. As for more obstacles and objects, I'll see what I can do. I'll have to find those things first before I can add them.

I'd never thought that people actually paid any attention to things like that, so I just didn't bother adding things like that. And another reason I didn't bother adding foregrounds is because the actual official Double Dragon games never had those as well, and people love those games. So I just didn't think people found it important.

Nice.

I knew this video already, actually. This video features an older version of the game. I believe this is v.4 or so. You can tell because 'Mission 3' in the video plays like all the other missions. In v.8, mission 3 is now a space-shooter type level.

The cutscenes in the video are all in black & white. In v.8, all cutscenes now have colours.

Another thing I instantly noticed in this video is that the mission after General Slaughter is the engine room of the ratship.
In v.8, after you beat General Slaughter, you'll go to Ragnarok's World instead of the engine room of the ratship.

I would actually love it if someone would do a video of v.8

But thanks for showing me :D

I will show this to a friend of mine, maybe he can make a video.
And I agree with NSW, you need to higher the contrast in the Double Dragon sprites.

But I don't have Photoshop. Is that the only way to do it? Or are there other programs to higher contrast?

I asked NSW if he could show me what the Double Dragon sprites looked like after he put the contrast higher on some of them. Once I can see this, then I can probably do it myself. I just need an example of what they need to look like.

Sorry, but this is new to me. It is the reason why I ask. For me to learn something new, I need to SEE it. That's how I learn.

Im at work and will send you some stuff tonight. I sort of wanted to do more stuff to help you but if you cant wait ill just send through the little stuff i did already.
I can wait. The more stuff you have for me that will help me, the better. I'm guessing we live in different time-zones. You are at work right now while I am going to bed. Here in the Netherlands, it's midnight. Talk to you tomorrow. Good night

Please turn on the cheats, if not, the game is impossible!!!...
It can't be THAT difficult, right? :-\ While the game was meant to be somewhat difficult (it is a Battletoads game after all), I can assure you that the game is not impossible. If it was, then I, myself, would not have been able to beat it while testing it.

Back in the old days, I went 'game over' a lot with these kind of games. But if you stick with it and just keep trying, you will eventually get to know the enemies and how to handle them. You also will remember where the traps appear and when to avoid them. It took me like 16 years to beat the original Double Dragon on the NES :P And it took me a whole lot longer to beat Battletoads on the NES. And now I can pretty much beat them every single time.

So yeah, just keep trying man. You will eventually be able to beat the game ;)
