Yeah the OG openbor mods starting out with mobs of enemies during the first two stages and that can get very tedious and boring for the player. Not to mention overwhelm them if the player has sit through bash wave upon wave of enemies throughout the play through.
Gotta go for World Heroes especially Perfect for example because it got some hidden mechanics like DC mentioned and the music and stage layouts are pretty cool. Doing the supers are hard to do lol. Still World Heroes don't get enough appreciation in my book.
I try this one way back and it was a pretty decent TMNT mod with some good slams and solid elements from the arcade originals. Probably one of the better TMNT arcade style mods out there imo.

its called Marvel Super Heroes Infinity Adventure and it looks pretty good in terms of quality of the sprite work
