Streets of Rage X

In Progress Streets of Rage X Beta 36

No permission to download
The project is currently under development.
Is it possible to have black bars (like the PSP game) in order to preserve the screen proportion?
Yes, it can be changed in the video options. But the game screen becomes too small for the RG35XX-H, I still need to test how it works using a mini hdmi cable on a TV.

Regarding the switch port, I will send a message to Syphia (switch port developer).
Thanks!

Weird, I have a 2022 phone which runs Android 13, the same of Retroid Pocket, and I can run SORX without any issue or huge loading time.

I’m not a native English speaker, but I think the right word here would be "could," not "must." When you use "must," it makes it sound like the game developer is obligated to do something, when they aren't—and neither are the engine developers.

I understand your excitement—I enjoyed seeing my Avengers project running on the Switch and 3DS myself. But that’s what I tell everyone who tests the game on other platforms: it’s not my intention to support unofficial ports; I have no way to test them.
And the problem with people claiming that the developer of a free game *must* do something is that it ends up being demotivating for them.

I was planning to post in that thread to clear up a few things, but something tells me it’s better not to.
I'm not a native English speaker too. My "must" word is related to welcome the developer effort, not to "force" someone to make a port. It's a way to make the game available to someone who doesn't have a particular kind of platform, and I'm grateful to the developers that make this come true.

Knulli port done. Basically this is the same muOS / Raspberry Pi OS binary but with some modifications in the shell script file (.sh), changing how the engine runs in this system.
In addition, I tested the mini hdmi cable to connect the Anbernic to a TV and it works very well, keeping the original resolution and proportion as any desktop.

Unfortunately the modded Stock OS didn't work, but since most people use muOS or Knulli, I think that this is enough for now.

The last challenge will be the UWP port. I saw that this is just a variation of the Windows port but compiled in a universal format that works in Xbox consoles too. But I will leave this one for the next beta 37.

So, currently we have the SORX working on:
- Windows (Desktop)
- Android (Mobile)
- Linux (Desktop, Steam Deck / Machine, Raspberry Pi and Anbernic)

PS: Sorry for the bad video quality, this is just a quick test recorded from my phone.

Hey everyone, is there an instruction regarding setting up custom soundtrack? I know there's an "external folder" option but i never really asked how it works all this time.
Do I need to put files in specific format (mp3? ogg?) in a specific folder wtih specific naming convention to play during each stage?
I just wonder if there's a list of codes/names for setting up custom soundtrack for each stage, as I'd like to set up a full soundtrack by BGM1401 (may his soul rest in piece)

I'm wondering this as well, I never quite figured it out 😅

Okay so I've just noticed that when you close the game with External Folder setting enabled, the game creates a "Music" folder with a txt file inside that has a full list of tracks.
So now my question is - do I name my tracks exactly this if i want to replace specific track?
For instance, when I want to replace Player Selection music, I put a music file named "01 Player_Select" in the folder?
And second question: can I just replace, say, five tracks and have the rest play the default/original version? Or do I need to replace all of them, or else there will only be 5 tracks in the game?

You name them according to the levels track name which i can see thats what you have done here. i did the same but nothing happened when the stage started.

Friends, the external music will only work in the VBOX version of the game. In case you already have it, I put a txt file inside the zip with some instructions.
However, I need to fix the text because I meant file "name" but in fact it's the file "number", like this:

Here's the content of the instruction file already with the fix.

########## External Musics Instructions ##########

- Every music track must be in .ogg vorbis format
- Every music track must follow the same file "number" in the playlist.txt file (the name is just for reference)

########## Steps ##########

1) Open the game
2) Go to: game settings >> features >> music style >> select "external folder"
3) The game will create a folder called "Musics" in the root folder, also with a "playlist" file inside
4) Prepare all the music files, put them in the "Musics" folder, rename following the "playlist" numbers
5) Play the game!

PS: You don't need to put all musics, but the game will play only the available ones.

And second question: can I just replace, say, five tracks and have the rest play the default/original version? Or do I need to replace all of them, or else there will only be 5 tracks in the game?
Currently you can only change the whole playlist. But the idea of replacing only a few tracks is not bad, I will test it.
Thanks!

Kratus updated Streets of Rage X (Windows / Android) with a new update entry:

Beta 36

### BETA 36.CC1 ###
- Engine: Implemented an experimental new controller code.
- Engine: Added Anbernic arm64 port, tested on muOS and Knulli operating systems (latest versions).
- Engine: Dropped arm32 port.
- Game: Added all the remaining CPU partners (heroes/enemies/bosses), now they can be selected randomly and can pick up some weapons (knife/pipe only, since they are the only ones that appear in all the trilogy).
- Game: Now the CPU partner's KO counter increments player KO counter, as...

Sir —

Just chiming in once again in this thread to say how much I appreciate all the work you've put into this. I love all the enhancements you've added here. Very tasteful and very useful (like the one button weapon throw a la SoR4). The new sprite art is great too for some of the newer weapon attacks.

Thanks again.

Thank you very much Kratus, you did a wonderful job — the game is now fully playable on my Anbernic RG40XX H (KNULLI).
I'll spread the word so more people can test and play it.
Many thanks man!

Many thanks for the explanation, @Kratus! I'll play around with the custom soundtrack feature once i have the full OST in OGG format lol. I guess I need to find a tool for mass conversion because doing this one by one would be a pain in the ass :D

This update is the BEST yet. The Blaze 1 Update was fun. You added the Ability to blitz enemies while holding them. That was really helpful on 8x enemies. I love the AI Partners. the up dated call the cops button and the chain gun animation.

Thank you, friend. I'm happy that you liked the game.

It's me that needs to thank you for suggesting the KNULLI port. I learned a lot during the process.
Thanks man!

Thanks buddy! I'm glad you liked the updates.
After some playthroughs, I would like to know your feedback about the 8x enemies.

If I'm not wrong the audacity software does this job, as well as XMedia Recode.

To be honest I even have the full BGM1401 playlist used in the SORR already prepared for the SORX. I created it during the old SOR2X development, but removed it after MaestroDraven sent his tracks during the SORX conversion.

Maybe I will share the playlist separately someday, but I didn't make it yet because I always avoid any SORR content.
