Playing Openbor IRL (and other created games)

I often ask myself it can be great to play mods with friend IRL.

Do you have the chance to do it?
Let's talk a little about it... :)

I never had the chance to play Openbor with friends.
In early Mugen days 1999/2000 I played Mugen vith High School friends.
It was kind of fun. It was also a good way to do some debugging about creations.

These days, there are more gamers around, but I feel like most of them have no interest in Indie games. All they play is casual kiddish games, war games, MMORPG, and sports games. (Im talking only for MY area)

It can be frustrating to see mods offering 2 players modes or even 3 or 4, but no friends really interested to "seriously" play it :-\

Do you have similar experiences?

i think depends of our age and with children or not
i know zvitor and ilusionista have great times with his children with gameplay sections

in my case, my friends are not much interested in play videogames, so i have only one friend that sometimes play with me and sometimes my brother play too

i think to me have the old 1990 feeling couch mode full of friends i had to become a uncle and play with the parents or start to make some children

i still want to have a real nice gaming room even if it is just for me :P

Also step so my wife does not like games, my son is very small and does not care about the game, my friends lately do not call anymore to play, was once a time when we were playing all afternoon, good times. :'(

Back in the Lavalit days when A Tale of Vengeance 1st came out, I managed to get my older bro, and my 2 cousins to team up with me and beat it on 4 players. We were all around the same age. That's about as close as I got, really fun memory for me, we had just discovered OpenBor.

I always played with my cousin since 1989. Remember the nes double dragon, knight of the round/sonic blastman 2 snes, and d&d on sega saturn, with him.

We're always beat em up fans. My girlfriend test games for me too  :P

His point. It's the generation and the fact that we're now getting a bit older now, interest wanes or maybe we're just busy at times. I say the former though. There are other things that poeple are more inclined to do and play now. Gone were the days of discovery when in our modern day and age you have the internet on your disposal and the creative freedoms that people have, with resources left and right.

Those are the days indeed. When we can just share stuff with others and play together. Now with the internet age, we're getting instead of growing closer, falling further apart.

It's a give and take I think. I miss the days when a cool new game at the arcade was a social event, and all the non gaming related stuff we grew up with - but the one generation back they felt the same about us.

We couldn't dream back then of having the resources to create games for ourselves - and I know plenty of us wanted to. Now look what we have!

Is it better now? Better then? Probably neither. Just different.

The only thing I lament when I look at any new gen is how they think they invented anything or will save the world because they're the "technology generation". EVERY generation since the stone age thought it was the state of the art in technical achievement, and was RIGHT.

And every generation after laughed at them. "Those old guys don't know anything - we're the innovators. We'll break all the rules and rewrite history!" They will move things forward a little bit, but they'll also get a nice splash of reality along they way, and the cycle continues. It's just human nature.

Agreed. Happened to me too. Especially with the things going on in my life and the people moving onto different paths to take, I guess it's human nature that we eventually have see things differently now.

But there will always be one person who would show up and pick up a game and blows his mind on what it is and the cycle continues. I rest my case for that.  ;)

I can sometimes get my younger family members to play, but not that often. Everyone else who still plays anything is more interested in playing COD, GTA, or sports titles. 1 of the younger kids usually just wants to play Mario, the other around the same age will usually play one of my Transformers game via steam, or trying to other games that require much more skill then he has. One of them is called Styx - Master of Shadows, and to give you an idea, it's pretty close to Metal Gear Solid in terms of stealth, but it's much harder to defend yourself if you're seen.
