As a linux user I cant install photoshop but I need to test something for a personal project. Can someone with photoshop confirm this is a valid palette file:

Help would be much appreciated and a screenshot of the palette is photoshop would be even more helpful.

That's what you get for joining the penguin bandwagon. ;)

I'm on my phone but when I get back later today I'll try and get you a SS.

This one does, transparency appears to be on the bottom right instead of top left.

really appreciate the help @danno 1 more thing can you make a colour palette that uses the full 256 colours and export it to a act file and upload it for me please?

I think i need to check the header data from a 256 colour palette.

Thanks hopefully this one is working can you confirm all 256 colours are present on this palette:

Thanks just so you know I am happy with Gimp and Linux but I wanted to port a game to the dreamcast openbor or dreambor as they call it. The dreamcast version only runs well in 8bit palette mode so you need to update the .act file but its not compatible with gimp so I made a programme to convert between Gimp and Photoshop palettes and I called it Gimpact lol.

@DCurrent is it ok if I post the tool here even though we don't actually need it unless someone loves legacy builds and doing things the hard way.

I don't mind, just make it very clear it's not the current or the easiest method any stretch. It took years, and we still have people thinking remap is how you make palettes work.

For the record, you can still use remap in current engine. It all gets converted to proper palettes under the hood, but the old commands are still there.
