Any beat em ups for starters?

I'd have to tell the truth: i'm actually a beginner to this beat em up genre, but i started playing them when since i had my copy of Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2, in where i managed to beat Knights of the Round, Captain Commando and King of Dragons, but spending lots of continues because the enemies were deaf, and that's why i still declare that I am still a newbie on the beat em up genre.

So i'm asking about what are the good beat em ups to start fresh from the beginning?

I suggest The Simpsons, as it only has a handful of moves and fairly weak enemies. Or you could get Sonic Revolution from here.

TMNT the hyperstone heist for Mega Drive (I don't like the name Genesis) is also a good start.
You can go for that on the easy mode.
PROTIP: Use the C button a lot, since dash in this game is your friend - and Hyperstone Heist is a nerfed version of Turtles in time, as both the arcade and super nintendo versions can be rather unforgiving. The arcade version features rubberband AI (The better you play on the beginning, the harder the game becomes later) and the SNES version forces you to beat the game on hard to complete it.

I would actually recommend the Streets of Rage series. Play the game one easy then turn the level up as you get better. For SOR3, get Bare Knuckles 3, as that version of the game lets you see the ending if you play easy, our US version wont and is much harder to play. Or, you could find a download of Streets Of Rage Remake, since it's esseintially all 3 games in one with multiple paths in some levels which were determine where you end up last, giving you plenty of reasons to play the game over multiple times.

- Any TMNT from Mega Drive/SNES/ARCADE
- Streets or Rage series (2 is the best one for me)
- Golden Axe series (again, 2 is the best one for me)
- Shinobi or Shadow Dancer (not exacltly a beat em up, but wel.,..)

I'd go for Streets of Rage since i have already SOR Remake on my hard drive, shame i don't even bother to play the original versions.
There's not much shame in it, the remake mostly made up of the original games. The only difference is more playable characters, mixed enemies, and other little details Bombergames added. There's also a shop for different options and additions, as well as being able to play other mods people have made with the engine. The only time I ever play the original game myself is on my cell phone, but that's only because I don't have much space for the OpenBOR mods and some of them fall kinda short for me in some areas(like missing Adam and/or Skate) or just being harder to play or slower.

I don't recommend Streets of Rage 1 since the first regular enemy can kill player easily. I recommend Streets of Rage 2 cause the Galsias are easy and it takes some time to get them to kill player
Final Fight and Final Fight 2 are good for newbies too

The one beat em up that I would like suggest playing is Tenchi Wo Kurau 2 aka Warriors of Fate, because the game genre revolves around the three kingdoms period of Ancient China. It's fun that you get to beat crap out of lots of soldiers and generals of the Wei Kingdom including Cao Cao. You get to play as the five tiger generals which makes Warriors of fate Hella fun. ;)

Streets of Rage 2 is a great start it has well-balanced characters and the enemy variety is decent enough to give you a decent challenge.

Any of the great Capcom arcade beat'em ups like The Punisher (great enemy variety, weapons, pick-ups and moves)
Final Fight series especially the Arcade version is great for beginners

It seems that i can't save in Streets of Rage Remake, so that basically means i have to finish the game in one sitting... i'd be good to restart back over everytime i start the game, but sometimes i'd want to continue on without having to restart over...

I remember the game can save and load, but I think only if you shut the game down with ctrl+x IIRC. GIve it a try one day.

Considering that Illu reccomended the Shinobi series, I can't help but also direct you to the Freedom Planet series. It's got some nice brawling action.

Haha, never heard of this series :D
It's just like playing as plushies. Not a surprise considering the furry fandom.
Can be funny to try.

But I would recommand classics.
Final fight series (1, 2 are a good start)
Sor series (2 is good to start)
Double Dragon series (1, 2 are OK)
