UPDATE: The game is complete!

********************************************************************************

This one is based on the TMNT games for the NES, mainly TMNT2.
It allows for 4 players, has recolored graphics, and a stage selection screen. After all stages are completed, players will have to go inside Krang's Body, and then into the Technodrome.

The game is called Rescue-Palooza because players will rescue (at least) one character per stage. After that char is rescued, it becomes selectable. Additionally, Donatello is carrying his newest invention, the duplicator (name is a placeholder). With it, he'll be able to create robot duplicate of the bosses. In other words, after each stage, both the rescued characters and the bosses become selectable.

Yep, this one will take a looong time to complete :p

Yeah, that sound ridiculous enough to be '80's Donatello :P

Sounds cool overall. Good luck with this one.

looking good.

will it be a full NES conversion to 16-bit or will also use elements from the 16-bit/Arcade era too?

Very nice video demonstration, but why don´t you use arcade music too? I mean this is 16 bit style so I think NES game would not fit on it?

Thank you. I admit I'm cheating when I say "16 bit", as that only applies to the graphics really. The reason is that I personally prefer the NES soundtrack to the arcade version (when it comes to the first arcade game, at least). I think it's pretty much flawless. I would even like to listen to the tmnt3 songs with the tmnt2 sound font, it's something I haven't played with but I might in the future.

Don Vecta: mainly NES stuff, but I'm planning to have Chrome Dome from Tournament Fighters, oversized sprite and all (he was a giant in the cartoon). Also I have a Triceraton sprite already, his upper part is taken from Radical Rescue from the Gameboy. I figure it's fine to do without the SNES stuff as most other TMNT mods are based on that era.

Wow I really would like to say this is a cool project.  Taking an old game with outdated graphics and recoloring them and making them look WAYYY better but still keeping the feel of the old game.  It's great.  Good luck with this project man :P

Ok agree with your explanation about cheating, so if you will use NES soundtrack, would be nice if you add some TMNT 3 musics, and also maybe technodrome stage or starbase stage with all those mechanical creatures such as mousers and robots, also it would be nice to have some TMNT 2 music with TMNT 3 soundfont I think. I had this cartridge on NES (TMNT 2 The arcade game) when I was a kid, but it is a very hard game if you play it without cheating you know.

Very cool, awesome work on the sprites.  It looks like a GBA remake.

I got all the NES music I ripped somewhere in perfect quality , I'll send them to you.

Great work mersox, how much time do you need to convert a 8bit Char to a 16bit char? that must be a lot of work right?

Edit:
The graphics remind me a little of the DOS and Amiga ports of the game, they had so much potential put where sadly realy Bad. =(

DOS

AMIGA

That Krang sprite is pretty cool thou.

It's only looks good on Screenshoots trust me, so many frames from the animations are missing that it is unsustainable to look at it for long, without making a true Turtles fan realy sad. :'(

Just look for it an youtube and you will see....

It takes me hours. It's had to tell exactly because I take rests in between. For example I started modding Mike around a year ago. Tora I think I recolored in a day or two.

Also you're right, it does look similar to the DOS/Amiga ports. I forgot about them.

So are some of the victims turned playable going to be Splinter and Casey? Always figured with those 2, the TMNT arcade cabinets could have been 6 player, like X-Men.

Those amiga sprites could be useful to you too.
Btw, will you still use 8bit music? I think I can give you a hand remixing the tunes in 16bit style, using Genesis instruments.

It would be very nice to have themes in 16 bits with genesis instruments, if you do this please share the music when finished O Ilusionista.

I just hope it's not like the original one (both Arcade and NES) when the game can be passed only with the Attack/Jump auto-kill attack! Gosh, that made the game so fucking boring, made all the other attacks useless!

That's the plan so far.

The plan is to use 8bit music. I really like the TMNT2 soundtrack. This also applies to sound effects. If I were to change the music though, I would use an SNES soundfont instead of the Genesis one. I'm not a fan of how the Genesis sounds and on this instance in particular I feel it would make the songs worse than on the technically inferior NES, absurd as it may sound. The other thing is that not all of the tunes I need are available in MIDI form. Anyway how do you make your remixes? Because some remixes like the ones from coatlesscarl on youtube would work. But again... I don't know if the effort would be worth it.

I can see the graphic talk here now what about gameplay talk? how would the gameplay of this mod be?

Like in the gameplay video, the gameplay is pretty simple:
- For the Turtles: TMNT2 moves plus special move and overhead throw from TMNT3. Special move takes MP and not lifebar.
- For the rest: attack, jump attack, special. Some characters like Rocksteady and Fugitoid can shoot as their special, their mp bar replenishes very fast but the shots don't do a crazy amount of damage. I have to test it first to make sure it's not too cheap.
- Some stages will require quite a bit of jumping.
- You know those "mother mousers"? They will work like those weird animals from Golden Axe: you can ride them after killing its pilot.

Very simple gameplay, that's the way I like my games. I'm aware that's not a popular way of thinking in this community, sadly.

I don't know what to reply to this. It's possible that his game might not be for you I'm afraid. :/

My plan is not to reinvent the wheel. The original TMNT games for NES are, along with Super C and Street Fighter Alpha 3, my favorite games ever. My aim is to pay tribute to them.
