Thoughts on Big Sprites and Big Stages

Hi, I'm currently in preparation to make a new game, for this one, I was planning to make the sprites and stages even bigger than normal

My game resolution is always 1600 x 900, and the height of the stages is usually 910 pixel high

however, this time I am thinking of making my sprites even bigger. Before I commit, I want to see if there is any negative aspect to this in terms of playing when i make the stage and sprites so big...

1. For example you always gotta scroll the stage up and down so enemies will be out of frame, thats one i can think of.

Here is like day 1 prototype example, what do you guys think? (the whole game only has 5 sprites total atm so yes its very static :P)

This in its current form (5 sprites in total) is already better than the entire Night Slashers Remake game. The only problem I see with going so big in terms of graphics is the amount of detail you'd need in your drawings but you seem to have a very stable and fast work flow so I say go for it.

It's nice to see bigger sprites like this. I hope bosses won't be bigger than these.
As for the issue, yes I agree with you the scrolling up and down is kinda annoying cause you are forced to go up and down to check the field. I believe the issue is the field's width which is quite wide IMO. It should be narrowed to half screen size for good size.
The extra background above the screen could be omitted since player would be focusing on the field.

I've seen your previous projects and am deeply impressed by your skills. The background of this demo is already a very detailed sketch, so I believe you have plenty of content ready to be illustrated. I'm full of anticipation!

@Aerisetta

I like it, and I even like the vertical scrolling. To me it gives the stage a feeling of size and feels less static. The only disadvantage to me for big sprites is just production time and you seem to have that under control. If the frame rate holds up (and no reason it shouldn't) the game experience is a wash. I'm curious to see more!

Also, the video is actually pretty hilarious in its own way.
