Wow, I somehow didn't see this news until now. Apparently a rogue group of protesters decided to spray some American tourists with water guns.
This strikes me as terribly sad. When I visited Barcelona, it was one of the friendliest places I'd ever been to. Picturesque and filled with beautiful people. The only "bad" experience I had was visiting a kind of run down store in a shady part of town for some baguettes (better than the ones I had in France BTW). For whatever reason, all the people there kept going wide eyed and parting like The Red Sea wherever I walked. Other than that, everyone was great. I can even recall one instance watching a small stage musical, and just out of habit, I was trying to figure out the beat by counting it on my knee under the table. One of the dancers on stage somehow spotted that, caught my eye, winked, and very subtlety signaled the count to me with her hands. That little moment really stayed with me.
And now this stuff happens. I read some on the issue and it seems tourism is driving up home prices and people are understandably angry about it. From what I understand it was also in Catalonia and that area has always had a lot of unrest. Still this just strikes me as the way wrong way to go about things. If someone sprays me or a family member out of nowhere with a water pistol, better hope its a girl, cause otherwise there's a better than good chance they'll be eating it.
As with any world issue discussion, keep any comments clean and don't bring political posturing into it.
