This looks like their best effort since Neon. I do like the designs of the new antagonist groups, but I wish there was more acknowledgement of games like the Neo Geo game.

Little disappointed in the chibi style looks like a kids game. I would prefer it be more apocalyptic and gritty. But the gameplay does look fun and supposedly it has 13 characters.

Also the image has a lot of characters in the background, is that shadow master from the TV show?

Marion looks great though, much better than the weird Marion from River City Girls 2.

Yes, saw that...
Sadly Marian is just an average gun shooting girl...
Not sure to like the SD rendering, but looks decent, and f*, this is one more beat em up to join the revival craziness of this type of game!

TBH the gameplay looks and feels different than classic Double Dragon but it might work with newer gamers, I guess.

I can't help but feel that I've seen this artstyle before but couldn't remember where.

Uncle Matin is going to be interesting with his shield.

@Bloodbane
its scott pilgrim vs the world-ish looking,
since it was kind of important i can only suppose that devs use the style to kinda pander to that crowd/generation who "links" or relates and pretty much may have been firstlydely introduced to beat them ups via scott P vs the W

not a fan of the "chibi" style either,
double dragon has always been an odd experience for me, the characters designs where weird and sort of ugly , but the animations and later on the snes the complexity and detail of some of the moves really compensated for it.
i played the hell out of double dragon 2 on the nes and it was really enjoyable for some extrage reason i can't describe, only beat the snes once as a rental .

years later skip to double dragon neon and it was not the same at all.... i played for like an hour and never touched it since
turtles in time re-shelled ws a better modernization me thinks....

from what i see on the footage , this double dragon is missing that weird thing the old 80's 90's DD games had that made it stand out, even amongst other "superior" classics like final fight, SoR, guardians, etc...

from what i see on the video it seems generic, which is a problem that tmtn shreder's revenge also had. it may be the art style, only actual game-play would allow me to judge it better

The information I read and watch Top Hat's video the developer that is creating the DD game has also made other beat'em up called Streets of Red which came out a few years ago.

The first three words of the title got me wondering why they named that, even though there is/was Double Dragon Gaiden made by @gabo-hanzo 14-15 years prior to this one. "Rise of the Dragons" sounds like Rage of the Dragons. I assume that would be its own thing from the DD canon or series, or something?

Uncle Matin reminds me of Colonel Neil McReady (known as "Blaster") from the animated series.

I like the screenpack elements. Portraits etc.

Everything else ingame is a bit under TMNT Shredder's revenge and RCR Girls in term of details and overall spriting ability.
I'm not saying the spriter is not good.
But working in such a full project is had, so it have to be simplified.. etc.

A bit just like when you compare DOA687's work in Final Vendetta, and the masterpieces he's usually capable of, out of a big project.

I saw some people complaining about 3 things:

1- The graphics are not as gritty as the original
2- The game is too fast paced
3- Hand guns in DD is weird

1- I think the graphics are nice. They look like TMNT new game to me (and the graphics is one of the good things of that game)

2 - I personally find the original arcade DD UNPLAYABLE to me nowadays. It's too slow for a beat em up (and the person who invented the reversed controls for the DD2 should be jailed, lol)

3- Let me show you the Game Gear version, where they use not only handguns:

The original designer said "Enemy's thoughts, attack range and response, grappling system, weapons, how to make use of terrain", etc. feels very different from 'Double Dragon'."
But I think this is a good idea.

Yeah I don't hate graphics but I would have preferred a 16bit look, like final fight, sor 2 final vendetta etc

It's like a Mashup of 8bit/chibbi style and we've already got a lot of them:
Scott P
The toxic crusaders one
Shredders revenge
RC Girls
Etc

But the gameplay does look good and 13 playable characters, I'll get it but probably not day one.

Hey I found a demo for the Avengers chibi game:

This GG version is definitely not my fav one. Even if it have some charm.
The option to pick up guns is not a bad thing to me.
I even planed some similar weapons in my project :)

I certainly have a problem with the archetype of girl "not really" fighting.
Like throwing magical sparkles, or shooting only with guns, or only using a whip etc.
But again, it's just me. ^^

@O Ilusionista And sure I'm ok with you with the gameplay. (The gameplay itself looks really nice to me)
We need "evolution" in modern games, just like I felt it was a really bad choice to go kind of "classic" on SOR4 and getting rid of run and roll etc.
with the pretext of favouring zoning = walking slowly to a spot and hitting, hitting, hitting again and again. (sorry for my French compatriots.)
