I recently released a new Special Edition.

Notes:
•Windows only, for now
•Make sure you master the new "Dodge" button

What’s new?
•4 player support
•Evading attacks is no longer done by tapping a direction twice; rather, it’s done pressing the new “evade” button (doesn’t seem to be a big deal, but it does alter gameplay quite a bit)
•One additional Zord level
•Silver Horns is now the Boss of the first level. Mutius now appears later in the game.
•Goldar has a voice, courtesy of Christopher Dean
•More energy power-ups
•Cutscenes last longer, more time to read
•New easy mode, for those who think the original game is too hard (tsk, tsk)
•The big, “realistic” explosions have been replaced to better fit the graphic style of the rest of the game
•Same with Rita’s teleport beam
•Lord Zedd fight is a bit less cheap now
•Bosses’ life increase if more people are playing
•“How to play” instructions are shown at the beginning of the story mode, hopefully now they’ll be read by newcomers
•You know that issue when you’re not in range to connect an attack to a Putty, but they can hit you anyways? Gone.
•Tommy (green version) now sports a black shirt. A bit more show accurate this way.
•New sound effects for the zord battles, taken from The Fighting Edition on SNES
•Whoosh sounds when attacking sound better now
•That weird bug when you die as a Ranger and respawn unmorphed is gone.
•Bosses now have a life bar.
•A bit less bikers
•Parachutin’ Putties
•Added a couple more details in background of Youth Centre.
•Lots more small fixes and tweaks here and there.

-------------------------

This is a mod I was working on in early 2011. I switched to a Mac since then and I abandoned the project. It wasn't until recently that I discovered that I could use Openbor in Mac OSx, but for some reason this mod crashes on my computer so this project is on hold for the time being. If anyone wants to work on it, be my guest (just let me know beforehand, I would like to know :) )

So, what is this? Well, originally this was going to be an updated version of the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers: The Movie game for Sega Genesis. That game had nice graphics but a slow, repetitive gameplay, annoying music and a dull color palette.

So the original idea involved remaking the game with new music (the same tracks but from a different source), recoloring the graphics using the palette from the Power Rangers games for the SNES, and reducing the number of bad guys and/or making them weaker, so the gameplay would be more fluid and you wouldn't find yourself in the same screen for what would seem like hours.

Eventually I decided to take some liberties with the game. The megazord scenes were scrapped, as was the change of the cast (the sega game went from using the season one cast to the movie cast with no rhyme or reason, just like in the show). I decided to keep the original cast through the whole game.

Additionally, if you lose half of your energy bar, you would demorph to human form.

The game is veeeery raw right now. The only thing completed was the Red Ranger sprites and animation, and the Putty Patrollers animaton (the sprites of the latter till need a bit of recoloring)

There is only one stage right now, but the change to morphed to unmorphed ranger works, although it is too abrupt and buggy sometimes. It definitely requires a transformation animation in between. The sprites for the human form of the Red Ranger require some tampering as well.

Anyway, here it is. I decided to upload it because even if I don't continue with it, at least it's out there. Might be useful for someone else.

Hey, thanks nsw25! I'll check it out. It's always good to have an expert take a look at your job. Also, you did a lot in just some hours, wow!

O Ilusionista, thanks for posting the link. I'll keep an eye on that topic. Luckyly I already have the sprites for the six rangers.

you're welcome.
I sent this link to another friend, he wanted to make a Power Ranger Mod for his kids, maybe he can carry the torch.

The game crashes before loading the stage, just like before. Apparently it's because of the Putty Patroller (Shermie in the pak). If I choose another stage, it loads fine. So the adjustments I was able to see look fine, but i can't check the others.

The fact that you can load the game in your computer makes it seem the the issue is not of the module but of either my computer or my version of Darwin (it's either too old or too new)

You have convinced me to continue working on the project but first I have to figure out why I am having trouble trying it.

Regarding the sprites' colors, I have no idea what's going on. All the sprites have the same palette and colors. So... not sure what the issue is :S

Make sure you're using the pal.act included in the download.

PS: Unless you're talking about the human version of Jason, in which case I'm aware he looks like ass. It's because it's an oversized version of his SNES sprites. It requires further tweaking.

O Ilusionista, if your friend in interested, tell him to contact me. We could join forces. And rule the galaxy.

Sounds like the 8bit mode bug, changing to 16bit should fix it. (I'll download the mod when I can and see)

@mersox - Also sounds like you have an older openbor version, check the log to see what version you have.

Latest OpenBOR (version 3984) download is here - http://www.chronocrash.com/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item136

well this is a good idea.. I tried your demo.. One thing I would suggest is have jason and red ranger as one char.. Have him morph half way through the stage like the original or have him have a super bar and morph when its full like the sequel.  I had a similar idea to make a MMPR mod after I was done with xmen.  I was going to have it play all through MMPR starting with the first episode Tommy joining in as green ranger and then the departure of jason trini and zac and the add of rocky adam and aeisha then the movie and then cat comming in as pink ranger you can edit kimberly from the movie into cat..  And then going to the end of the MMPR series before it got bad with turbo.  Another complaint is that the boss is not a power ranger boss i would use bosses from the power ranger games and then some others from other japanese power rangers type games godzellia games kamen rider etc.

BeasTie: I'm using OpenBoR v3.0 Build 3742, Compile Date: Dec  7 2012. It's Darwin, it's hard to find info on Darwin so I'm not sure if there's a newer version. The link you posted works only for Windows, Linux and Mac. :S
Also it's set to 32bit.

esn23: Thanks for trying the game out. You have very ambitious ideas, haha. For the moment, to set a more realistic goal, I'm going to use only the ranger forms. Once the game is completed, I'll try adding the human forms for a second version of the game.

I used 3742 for quite a while until just recently (I finally updated), it should be no problem to keep using it.

You could do the extra forms pretty easily using the weapon system, you can force player to either form at start of stage, or make them transform at certain point.

@nsw25 - Your method of making palettes that you've described to me before (copy and paste), is not a very good way to do it thou.

nsw25: Awesome, thanks! You know, I tried it, and it didn't crash! Whatever you did to the putty patrollers, it "fixed" the game.
At first glance it's hard to see everything you did, but I noticed the new font, no example game modes in the menu, Red Ranger can roll when lying on the floor, walk animation, new icon and hud, etc. So it's nice and I'll work with that as a base. I hope you don't mind if I reverse a couple of things to the way it was before, to be specific: the jump movement and having the enemies bars be invisible. I'm a fan of the TMNT2 for the NES in regards to those aspects.
Thanks again. Pretty cool.

BeasTie: I actually used the weapon system for the demorph effect. For now I'm not going through with the demorph aspect as it requires six new characters, including all their animations and stuff. So that goes for a version 2. Otherwise I'll never finish this thing.

Yep good call,
just didn't want you to abandon something you wanted because you think it will be hard to do in openbor.

I really needed a break from my simpsons game, i may make my own Power Rangers mod someday. Will update the link every now and then and you are free to use and edit what you need :)

Sounds good, man.

I'm working on the cutscenes, using the ones for the Genesis as a base.

I'm thinking that the subtitle of the game will be "Second Genesis", as a reference to both the Sega Genesis and that the game will end with the original cast transferring their powers to the movie cast, resulting in a new live for the rangers pr something like that.

Stages:
1. City in daytime (ends with boss battle inside the Juice Bar/gym). Boss: Probably that big blue guy from Fighting Edition
2. Park. Boss: that weird trio from the Sega Genesis
3. City in nighttime. Boss: Maybe weird lipstick woman from Fighting Edition
4. Caves. Boss: Goldar
5. Deserted Planet. Boss: Lord Zedd

Ah, Forever Red is such a fun episode, I'd love to see it in DVD quality (but there's no way I'm buying the Wild Force DVDs, ha)

I finished the cutscenes and recoloring/modifying the city stage. Here's some comparison shots. I also added the entrance to the Juice Bar, I made the logo based on a t-shirt design I found thanks to Google.

Cool thanks!

That's a pretty awesome Green Ranger, He should definitely be in the game as a boss.

What's your current plan for your Power Rangers mod? Are you also interested in basing in on the Genesis game or do you have a different vision?

Hey man Great Game development you got there. İ was told by O İlusionista to look into this as İ am the one ripping and making some Power Rangers Sprite Sheets aswell.

İ see that you use some mixed styles together from Snes and Genesis wich isn't a bad thing. İ did ripped Blue Ranger from the Snes version before and Red Ranger from the Genesis Game.

İ gave Red Ranger more customs such as crouching and air punchs. Same goes for guarding.

You can get Blue Ranger and Red Ranger from My Website:
http://omegacreations.weebly.com/sprites.html

İ will be updating My Website soon since there are Sheets that are already on Spriters Resource that are added by Me.

Blue Ranger on My site has Green BG so it doesn't mess with other colors. That's the correct one.

Also İ ripped Dark Warrior. He is the 5th boss in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Snes Game.

The Link: http://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/powerrangers/sheet/57765/

nsw25: If you end up using the Genesis sprites then you'll save a lot of time using the sprites from this mod.

Omega: Thanks for stopping by and for the nice words. That Red Ranger sprite sheet looks very cool, I like the colors and the new sprites.

BTW If any of you guys are bored, would you like to rip the final to stages from the Genesis? The cave and the "Deserted Planet". I did it already but the Genesis emulators on Mac don;t let you switch off layers, so everything is merged together and it's so maddening to separate them after the fact. It would be better to rip them again, this time in individual layers. Let me know. Those are the two Genesis stages that I'm missing.

Also I made a new stage:
