Masters of the Universe opinion sharing

Any MOTU fans? If so have you seen Kevin's Smith's new version or not and want to eventually? And....If so curious of other opinions. I liked it pretty much, I won't spoil anything.

I like it. Even when a classical character got woked and turned into a drama queen plot device. Orko and Evil-Lyn getting character development was nice. I'm hoping we get more He-Man for season 2 but hearing some rumors on season 2 is kind of disappointing.

As for the Kevin Smith issue I'm keeping away from it since Kevin is obviously trolling and the Twitter drama channels on Youtube are just leaching off it for views. I only watch Shanieology for that cause he makes a good Skeletor critic.

I feel like the recent She-Ra was better, because it was more honest. You could tell from the art style of the show (thin outlines, pastel colors, etc) immediately what the show was like with the tone and writing. And it even made all the characters more developed than their 80s counterparts.

I dont really want to dive too much into it and precisely mention which part i hated , it was very strange to see 3 women characters shit on he-man for not going out too much , being man baby and they gave him cringy oneliner to present him as moron... it was presented like if he-man was some has been that nobody wanted and everyone is hating cause he died... wow , so you could live , ungrateful beings.
All female characters besides adam mother were very self loving , blame shifting, entitled and unsympathetic. They blamed men for everything and yet somehow there was a queen in their world, so look you can actually be in power , you just have to stop whining and looking for someone to blame. That wont make you progress. How about being happy without having to rule something or someone.
Very power hungry and bitter characters.... it was disgusting.
Like if entire universe evolved around them, there was never even one episode in old shows where he-man said the horrid things these women said in that show and can you image him whining that sorceress is more powerful than him in the castle and he wants the power for himself cause shes a woman and she didnt let him cause hes a man and all that shit ? That would be horrible.
I have a friend who does some comic books and art stuff... he has a friend and etc, so he had some good info on what the show will be before it was released.... and i did not believe him fully but he pretty much said he-man is non existant and its teela show which was weird cause smith precisely denied exactly that.
And then it got released.... it was like a stab in the back.
These people rip off the skin of your wife, they wear her skin and they expect you to love them... they must have some serious social retardation on unreachable levels , or they hate making money.
Why would you want to market your show as a dog lovers show, even make a teaser that looks like its dog lovers show, make toys and candy/cereal with dog pictures on front and then this show is actually a cat show, You seriously be surprised that people dont like that ? They dont like to buy something that was marketed as A and they got B instead? Sure there are peopel who dont care and move on, but some people do care cause they were fooled too many times.
I know its just first half but second one will be downhill all the way.
Mattel could not use filmation assets in any form and i get that but i was hoping to get what was on minicomics when you bought the toys.At least that.
I have a great idea... lets do a show about barbie, lets kill her off in first episode, replace her with action man.
Lets see how people will react. TEll them she saCrIfIcEd HeRsElF and all... will they see it as something very brave and amazing screenwriting or just plain dumb and suicidal marketing that will bomb and leave toys at discount for 1$ cause nobody would want them.
Entire thing is a shitshow, they think theyre soo smarterd than the 80s ppl cause they did what wasnt done before.... killing , wow.Highers stakes ?
Wow... is it really what people were missing since 80s ? Who expected he-man from 80s to be oscar worthy writing or deep character plots ?
Iis it suddenly olympics what character has deeper story and how much drama? so if characters have some doubts about himself and fights mentally with own desires then hes the bestest writing eva on the planets ... wow.
In the end i can tell You that i know the ending and i will spoil it cause its not worth to keep that secret -  her friend Andra is going to be new champion of eternia, even her voice actress spilled some info when she had to say "ï have the power" when auditioning and both teela and andra reference model sheets are missing  their second forms (theres empty space on both modelsheets so we 100% know they have second "looks"/forms)
So... its one of the worst scenarios for motu show.
This is what killed he-man in the 80s, they made she-ra and it made he-man less popular and less special, boys stopped watching, its like if barbie show now had a ken show created.
Now they do it on steroids and they expect to sell some toys on a plan that killed the show in the past ? Talking about marketing geniuses at netflix and mattel.
I know we dont own the characters, were not entitled to them and its not religion or some science - they can do whatever with them, but we can also not accept such drastic changes to characters that were already estabilished 30 years ago, i know i wont, i dont have to , i value my time and my money.
Im glad i have filmation dvds.
Of course that is just my own opinion and im glad to disagree and rewatch some filmation episodes with my child without blameshifting characters that have agendas and are main heroes not villains.
I gave it a chance, i was warned but i tried anyway, its not a big deal cause its just a cartoon ,  i see a lot of people not liking it... minority likes it , me im just waiting for it to fade away.
Ah, MYP version (2k one) had nice writings, lots of sidecharacters and all but i did not dig the designs at all... also different music, its just not the same, you cant beat the classic with how it looked and sounded like. That he-man theme was just a good and catchy track, gave me goosebumps as a kid.No cartoon did that later maybe besides tmnt wolf opening.

I'm not even gonna bother watching it now, I can't figure out if it's because I'm an adult who over complicates things or if it's this current social climate that makes everything seem soul less, maybe both, I tried watching Picard (Star Trek) and it actually made me feel depressed, bWWd's synopsis has definitely de-turd me from possibly giving it my attention.

Thanks much for sharing very in depth  sincere opinions. When It comes to great series that are such a nostalgic thing. I'm the kind of crazy fan with the kid inside me and then once I see something new  I just want to ask to everyone what they thought about it too...appreciate all the responses :-)

danno I can understand those POV's...it is a "dark" time imo. I would say it it could be either of the two. I find it diffcult to sit through a lot of things honestly..there's seems to be a lot of distractions. I certainly have had mine at least and considering how many good franchises when revived had been let downs I could understand passing. Then again I could see age also being a factor because as we do age most tastes change and prioritiize at 8 or 12 or even 18 years old. Maybe because we think well I have done that one before. Though having been once given an expiration date as I did (Ha) and being glad I'm still here, nostalgias in general anymore don't have the same effect on me at this point in my life. I have to be in the mood for something animated too and it has to be on that above average level considering the volume of distractions in our current time.

I would say this about it though. I am glad I watched it because it was mentioned that it kind of a dedication/tribute from Kevin Smith to those fans who loved the 80's series and it kinda felt like a gift being a pretty big fan at since and knowing he was too . And as Damon mentioned in his good, the character development was a nice touch. It does give the whole thing some emotional weight. That and the He-man's approach I agree was done very well. I would say it was worth watching but the time has to be right for you.

Damon Caskey put it pretty well, danno

i watched the thing & it felt like a good "what if" story.

My experience with the he-man show is this:
in Mexico we got the episodes out of order, it was a nice source of joke material to roast & bully schoolmates, & most episodes you sat & watched where a good time.
I never watched the show in order, & do not feel brave enough to watch all 80's episodes (i watched the entire TMNT series, & it was not as cool as i thought)
So watching the thing  was OK, but it shows that western media & america is going trough some weird phase & Japan & Korea is kicking butt...

Here is an interesting experiment: pitch a show , but do 2 versions of it, one that is made with all participants on an 80's type mindset, and another with all the activist "social Issues" diversity & carefully worded & respectful dialogue/stories mindset,
the 2 shows have the same budget & creative freedom
and then after 10 years see which version sold the most... (my guess is both version make money anyway)

I feel like a 2000s mindset would be a good balance between these extremes.

And, nsw25 , that’s not guaranteed. Something like Star Wars never did that. For all we know, they’ll double down.

Miru
i don't know the 2000's where kinda bland on the american front... too much worry for terrorism & fear of offending or "triggering"  people affected by the attacks that happened in the early 2000's...

it went as far as to actually censor & remove some stuff on cartoons of the 90's (spiderman episodes - especially a very clever one)

I would like to see a combination of the i don't give a dam attitude of the WB cartoons of the 40's, the roid & coke rage of the 80's, the cleverness of the 90's (animaniacs, freakazoid) and some of the transhumanism that we have been exploring in the 2000's up to now.

Hell the OG Heman cartoon was weird as hell, & i think that it was interesting because some of the weird problems where eternia problems, not earth problems...
it did feel like a window to a weird world.

hell it was the 2000's that got rid of Porky Pig & Speedy Gonzales, because people decided they where "victims", in Mexico speedy Gonzales cartoons are loved (or were....  younger folks now-days are too busy watching fragments of fragmented stuff on the tik toks & instas)
& Porky was seen as a clever problem solver, & the stutter never seemed unlikable & weirdly a very probable thing a humanoid pig would do...
(a Donald duck situation).

its tough tho, i have been hanging out with my nieces & nephews & most of them consume the most vapid, empty, nonsensical stuff i a have ever seen...
Just today i was sitting fixing a computer while i heard 3 hours of literal babbling at accelarated speeds & speech filters...
i got curious & asked the kid to tell me at least 4 things he learned or remembered about the stuff he was watching & the poor bastard was not able to tell me ONE.... asked for his favorite video of the whole & the kid just mentioned something about a funny dog (a lie answer, because the kid could not even elaborate on what the "funny" was)
So as an animator or series producer... it seems that there is going to be a "lost" generations that will not be interested in anything at all, no attention span, no patience , & not even curiosity....
so all you have left is the woke crowd ( about 4 to 8 % of the population) the nostalgics, the olds and the Glorious republic of china approved media

danno go and watch it but dont pay for it, its good when you have own opinion about things, we all have our own experiences in life, friends and family that shaped our worldview, its ok to like different things.
Im a bit salty overall about today cartoons that try to push political or sex identity stuff for kids because they dont need to know, i as a parent will let them know how it works, why people of the same gender want to be with each other, why people of different genders want to be with each other, there are multiple reasons for that, im not ok with cartoons showing them these things, never was a fan of relationships in cartoons, thats why im glad that in old he-man he was single all the time, also show like macgyver had him being single.Id hate seeing them cucked.
Every human being should be fine on their own.
When you have to rely on someone else in a non business relationship, youre in trouble , sure its fine to get help sometimes but people mostly help because they expect something later in return even if they wont tell you that, so... its just safer to either pay them or do it yourself.

I feel like people are missing the point of the show. They are killing people and flipping the series on its head early on to create buzz and get people talking and do something different. This is only half of the overarching story (just like everyone sooking with avengers infinity war) In the end there will be magic etc where the events are rewound or reset or null and void and things will return to normal. in the meantime yes we will get Teela as a Heman variant and all sorts of other unique stuff.

They know Heman is liked and is why they have him front and centre for advertising and the toy line. they wont throw that away. its simply story telling to serve a purpose.

Sadly, it turns out the show got axed before it could do that, and is being replaced with a less-serious-looking CGI reboot

Good lord,

i had a bit of a hard time enjoying samurai jack because of its art style (batman the animated - DC animation of the 90´s series is as far as i go when it comes to simplicity in character design)

the new heman style reminds me a bit of starwars bad batch/clone wars & my tolerance for that style can only withstand those 2 shows

might watch the first episode, but expectations are low...

Hey, bit of good news, i find the 2nd season a bit better & i am curious for the 3rd season.

could use less crying tho. Or at least cry & run & fight & do something at the same time

Teela was fine until that horrible interaction she had with the Sorceress in that pool. It's like she devolved back to her being a drama queen at the end of the first episode.
