Korean translation for openbor

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a way to contribute to openbor's Korean translation. DCurrent on Github encouraged registration on the Chrono Crash Forum as bleow link;


Can I contribute to this post? :)

Sadly, I have bad news. Your translation document will not work because OpenBOR does not support non-Latin characters, and we do not have any plans to add such a thing. You will need to use a Romanized alphabet to make the translation compatible.

Note in theory you could make a custom font with Korean characters, then reference them using Roman positional equivalents. Same principal as the technique some modules use to replace letters with icons. However, this would be rather complex and only work if the Korean alphabet is 26 or fewer characters. I assume it has many more than that.

Yeah, I suppose that some chinese translations on OpenBOR are using a similar icon system too, but there's a mysterious "fontmbs" engine function that allow access to multiple font images. I searched the forum for more information but found nothing other than this post, it would be good if we can have more details about it.

In this file provided by @pudu every font uses around 73 images each, I don't know exactly how it works but maybe could be used for both japan/korea languages too.

I had no idea we supported multi-byte fonts (assuming it does really work). It must have been added before I took over from SX and I just never noticed before. If that's the case, we probably could support non-Latin characters. I can't say anything for sure though. I know how muti-byte fonts work in principal, but not much at all about implementation.

I'll tag @Plombo. He might have some off the cuff knowledge about it.

Me too, it was thanks to @pudu that sent me this translation pack some time ago.

He said that most Chinese mods are using this method to translate their games. I'm working on the SORX translations and will do more tests using this method, this way we can add more info to the engine documentation.
 
I forgot that fontmbs exists but is not published in the manual. Now I see why.

I wonder if fontmbs can be useful for @kimono's Way of the Martial Arts mod because each palette of the fighter has its color, so should the letters of their names for certain palettes. We can't depend on default fonts for palettes unless it's not limited.

For Korean characters, I'm not sure because there can be 2-3 characters in one group or two as a word. Seems each letter is a letter. Also, there could be each Korean letter to be resized small for a combo with letters as single words. This is because I do worry there may be foreign words which are borrowed for Korean language.

I'm trying to make a full chinese translation of my game. do you have a game example where they have full chinese characters ready to go?

I saw videos of this game Warriors of Fate
they seem to have typed out chinese characters 1 by 1 so I assume they solved it
But this game seems to have virus and was removed from site

I need a game example to learn from to get started

EDIT: Hey actually i was able to download the game and i paxloded it and found 2 interesting things
1. they have a set of chinese fonts in sprites so clearly they can do it
2. HOWEVER, all the files were "corrupted" after i paxploded it....which means...
a. Hmmm i cant learn from it
b. hey is this another way to encrypt? exciting! lol
