I bought this instead of Street Fighter 6

It was made by 3 people so I can forgive the choppy animations and lack of content and I only paid like £10 for it.

Surprisingly I really enjoy playing it, you can actually feel the difference in the individual martial art styles, my favourite style is Tang Soo Do (Chuck Norris) which is a Korean style of Karate which I never even knew existed, The style feels really hard and impactful and I had a lot of fun learning the combo's.

I was intending to buy street fighter 6 and show you guys that but I couldn't bring myself to pay £90 for the first year. I remember spending over £300 on street fighter 5 and I just couldn't do that to myself again so here's my Chuck Norris play through and the final boss is Bruce Lee in a recreation of the final battle from the Movie Way of the Dragon which I thought was pretty freaking cool too.

Final Fight was the first Arcade I ever played way back in 1991 when I was 8 years old. On the weekend when my dad would visit he'd take me into the city centre and go to the bookies (a place where adults gamble) kids were not allowed inside the bookies but next door where all the kids were was an Arcade place called LASER QUEST.

I never had any money to play the Arcades, the only way I could play is if some badass already completed the game and left a credit in the machine or me and the other kids found money on the floor and we'd put all our combined coins between us to put into the machines for a credit, you could only imagine the fights that would take place when someone stole a credit.

@machok to answer your question I use MAME to emulate as it allows easier access to dip switches which can sometimes allow for a customizable arcade experience.

Here are some of the Final Fight dip switches

  • DIP SWITCH A1-A3: Changes the starting level. This is in little-endian format: For instance, if Dip Switch A1 and A2 are both set, the game starts at stage 03, the Industrial Area.
  • DIP SWITCH A4-A6: Changes the starting checkpoint of the starting level. This is also in little-endian format.
  • DIP SWITCH A8: Runs the game at ~4x speed.
  • DIP SWITCH B1: Enables the "NORMAL" collision box for all objects.
  • DIP SWITCH B2: Enables the "BODY" collision box for all objects.
  • DIP SWITCH B3: Enables the "ATTACK" collision box for all objects.
  • DIP SWITCH B5: Makes both players invincible.
  • DIP SWITCH B6: Enables the tile type screen overlay.
  • DIP SWITCH B7: Attempts to give Layer 3 priority over Layer 2, but doesn't seem to work right.
  • DIP SWITCH C1-C2: Slows down the game's running speed.
  • C1 only: Runs the game at 1/2 speed.
  • C2 only: Runs the game at 1/3 speed.
  • C1 + C2: Runs the game at 1/4 speed.

so with this Dip switches we can see body, attack collision box similar with openbor feature?

Ahh maybe now I can see all collision from original source and learn from it :)

danno which MAME version? I stop download new version since they're not compatible with my old ROMs

I'm using Mame64 version 0.196 I can't say where to get the roms

It's no secret I'm a fan of Spider-Man he was my hero growing up, My dad brought me some comics back from America and ever since then I was hooked, my dad travelled a lot when I was a kid he was a semi famous musician during the 70's and 80's he even had a number 1 song in the UK in the 1970's, He brought me even more comics of Spider-Man from Japan too and it was strange to see the difference to the American version.

One Saturday morning when I went into the Arcade I saw Spider-Man and I went crazy, I could not believe it, I thought I was dreaming, it was the best thing I'd ever seen and I could not stop playing it.

This game is what really had me fantasising about having my own arcade at home, I used to tell all my friends that one day I'm gonna have an arcade at home and we'll all play it for free hahaha

My son likes Spider-Man too, 3 generations deep.

@danno

This spiderman game is weird, i like the graphics becasue they look like art directly from the comics, i like the conversion of the levels from beatthem up to sidescroller, but it seems that it needs improvement, maybe devs did not have enough time?

the conversion thing in real time is really cool, i think this may be the only game that features this (maybe some japan only arcade title may have something similar)

It does lack polish and to be honest the animations are terrible, I mean look at the walk animation

looks like he can't be bothered 🤣 all Spider-Man's moves feel sluggish like he's had one too many pints at the pub, I honestly think the 2D platform aspects of the game is where they started out and the beat em up section was an afterthought, either that or it was two totally different teams working on each part.

Kid me didn't know any better or cared and the games I'm playing through have more of a significant meaning to me rather than looking at it technically but even so for 1991 it was pretty groundbreaking.

Sunset Riders, this is one of my all time favourite arcade games, it's probably the most money I ever spent on a single machine as a kid.
I love everything about it, the music, the artwork, the animation, the sound fx, the pace, mechanics and gameplay, there is nothing I could add or take away from it.

I played this a lot with my brother and it's one of my best memories with him.

indeed , one of the best

i have never been able to play this game with 3 other people,
Also, a few years back a friend and I wanted to make a sequel using the perfect dark engine, but the limitations of actually hacking the game to support 4 players in single player mode have never been surpassed to this day....

Thank goodness for Mame as it has preserved the wonderful past world (my beloved) of arcade games. One of my favorite kind of forgotten Gems was a about a Space bunny called Bucky "O Hare at war with some alien space frogs or something like that lol. It's a comical shoot em up space -type themed game with some cool characters. Very original concept IMO. The main Character Bucky has this funny slogan in cutscenes "Let's croak some Toadies." There was a console version but not all that fun and no where near as pretty as those arcade graphics. It's a great play through if you ever come across it try it. I love that game! It is just a fun blast! LOL I would highly recommend playing through it at the least once. It's your typical arcade play time about 45 min.-1 Hr.I played that game for the whole time it was in a local arcade. It was the kind of game I would love to have seen a sequel too. True Gem.

Final Fight marked my life forever, I fell in love when I saw it for the first time. In the arcade places I was always surrounding other players in the hope they would ask me for help with a second player and give me a coin haha. These were really good times :)

I know what you mean. This game rocks and is so retrograde. My only thing is I would have rather focused on the boss fight more so than the same thugs with the bosses. Would have liked a more intense and diverse boss battle. Other than that it's an almost perfect 10 and it way fit the time. Makes me think of an Abraham Lincoln question to his wife: Do you think we choose the times into which we are born? Or do we fit the times we are born into?

Bucky "O Hare

I have seen it but never actually gave it a playthrough but I'll defo give it a try.

I did this with street fighter 2 hahaha I literally stalked people on that machine, I could only ever beat people with Blanka even though Guile was my favourite character. good times indeed.

Do you think we choose the times into which we are born? Or do we fit the times we are born into?

I think in hindsight we feel we have chosen to fit into "life" and in foresight we choose again how to deal with the cards we are dealt, just straight up fitting in seems a little too victim minded for my liking where as having the ability to choose although it might seem to go against fate and the illusion of choice there still is an element of power and strength in responsibility no matter when and where you were born.

Nicely said. If ever any come to memory anymore arcade gems I think you might enjoy I will let you. Always share thie beautiful thing called life...always. Happy Gaming!

I remember coming across Renegade in the arcade but no one ever played it, never had a queue, never any arguments over who's next to play.... nada

It was insanely difficult, I would get so angry playing it, the controls were crap and the frame rate would slow down something awful, I never ever got past the first level but it had a charm to it that I was drawn to.

Just barely got past the first level and I rage quit 🤣 It's probably why I never liked double dragon later on now I think about it.

Ah Renegade, I only played the PC port of it and despite its difficulty, I kept playing it. I haven't played Final Fight nor Streets of Rage back then so there was no comparison.... except for Double Dragon which I've played before. It was hard, fighting 2nd stage boss was huge achievement for me let alone meeting Big Bertha.
Then one day when I played it on a whim, for some reason I could clear 4 stages and face Mr Big. Too bad I lost to him thanks to his bullets.

Never played Renegade ever again after that.

@Bloodbane How about this Run and Gun gem? Loved it. Controls could be tricky but fun nonetheless. Kind of Contra like but with it's own tactical style, I Mame it all the time on a consoles unofficially lol. ;-). It was on Sega Genesis as well. Pure Run and Gun fun!

I've played Midnight Resistance couple times cause it's run n gun and has sprites needed for my Contra fangame.
