And here is the new version of Battle Stormer Classics, an oldschool game, on a boss rush mode, featuring classics chars from classic games.


The project gameplay is very simple, far more based on platform games rather than fighting games:

• one round, no defense and no auto turn
• Two attack buttons and one special
• Some interactive backgrounds (platforms, items, breakable objects, etc.)
• Interactive lifebars, which reacts when the player was hit
• Non-playable bosses
• Characters from 16-bit systems or more

This version 2.0 features:

• 22 playable characters
• 25+ bosses / non-playable characters
• 43+ stages
• Story
• Compatible with newer Windows versions
• Non-moleboxed content
• Bonus Stage

First, Happy New Year to everyone.

Second, in 2014 we (me and Zvitor) plan to release a new version of this game, with some cool additions.
One char that people requested to me, over and over (just loses to Sonic and Mario) is Goku. The the problem, always, was the size and I never found a good sized Goku to use on the game, with good animation.

Then my friend Omega shows me this Goku, from the PSX game  Dragon Ball Z: Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu which have an almost perfect size:

I will downsize Goku to 95% by code, so the details aren't lost on the process.

About Sonic...well, I always was AGAINST him, because his cartoon nature. But this question was in my head since the first day: if I have Sonic enemies, why I can't have Sonic himself? Judging by the size, Sonic won't be a problem, since he is not a human (and seeing him in action in Capcom vs The World makes me wonder). Mario, for example, would be totally out of question.

So, what do you think? Would be Sonic a good addition?

But I would stop there, with only Sonic. No other super deformed char. (Maybe TwinBee)

Yes Sonic should be the limit. I mean, using Sonic is OK, but more SD char would mess with the full game look. IMO.

About Goku, I just seen these sprites from psx on sprite database and thinked it can be used in this kind of game project. Happy coincidence... :)
 
Yeah, that is the limit of SD char I would use. Just because Sonic is so iconic (and, for me, Sonic > Mario) and since he is not a human, it won't be a problem. I just don't want to turn the game into a cartoon thing.
 
not bad this is realy cool  the beginning song is a nice fit to for the  select chatterer screen :)
 
A quick question: YES or NO to those Megaman bosses (and Mega Man per se)?

I was really avoiding non-standard sized chars, like SD chars, but Megaman (specially the classic serie) IS way smaller than a normal char, so I don't see a problem with that. The same will work for Sonic: I can't make Sonic as tall as Batman.

As for the custom characters I was thinking of doing, I was looking around my collection for a good base to make Poison (Final Fight) in this scale and style. A non-SD Shantae has been at the back of my head for some time as well. Komaru Naegi from Danganronpa Another Episode has also crossed my mind often. Poison has had the most development in my head, though;

As for bosses; I was thinking about turning a later-day NES boss into 16-bit+ format.

Rebecca (Death - The Demon Huntress, Java)

It's not common to see a hero with a scythe, really.

For bosses, I feel like Blasphemous is a good recent game to pull from. I could see more of Dark Ruler's bosses working as well, even some of the less realistic ones like Little Clown. Maybe there could be a stage with various regular enemies from games that attack players? Trio the Punch could work for that sort of stage. And yes, I do approve of some sort of desperation move. Much like UBF, not all of them should be offensive in nature; some could be invincibility or something like that. Would bosses from Doom, Heretic, and Hexen work?
 
Miru yes I plan to bring more characters from that game.
I wish I could work on this game again but, for now, I can't.

I even have plans for a sequel, but with only characters that can shoot - so its easier to add some bosses.

I decided to review this old project - Battle Stormer Classics - and finish it, so I can move to new projects.
The game now works as a Boss Rush only - no versus fights between players, and this play way better.

I've improved somethings like damages, AI, fonts, etc. And now it works on newer Windows versions (the last version works only up to Windows 7).

I am just polishing some stuff so I can update it in some days (I hope, lol).
